For almost a year and a half, most of us have been at home more than ever since before kindergarten.

Weight gain and mental health has become a concern for millions of people.

Not experiencing human touch.

If you are an emotional eater like myself, being home near the fridge and panty might seem hard without checking what’s in there.

Here is a thought. You (you!) are totally in charge of what food you choose to bring into your environment. That’s great news.

Next time when you are shopping, and start to pick up a snack or dessert that you know is not healthy – ask yourself does it get to come home with me? Maybe not.

Another way to look at it is... that if on average most of the calories in your grocery cart are fat or carbs, then most of the calories you consume in the long run will be from fat or carbs.

Guess what today is?...

National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day! 🍦 Rather than going out somewhere and buying ice cream, you can make your own with as little as three ingredients:

2 frozen bananas
1/4cup oat milk (or any milk of your choice)
1tbsp baking cocoa powder or cacao powder

To make it even more interesting, I sprinkled shredded coconut on top!

Be careful outside, and watch for signs of multiple kinds of heat stress, and be ready to take prompt and effective action to keep yourself and others safe.

Drink enough water or other liquids.

Today is a National Hydration Day, and even though I wrote about importance of drinking water yesterday, I want to emphasize the hydration again.

When thinking about hydration - think beyond just water.

Vegetables, fruits, soups and broth can also be a good source of hydration.

Eating these foods daily help you to meet your hydration requirements, which are very individual depending on your activity level and other factors.

I have a confession - strength training has always been out of my comfort zone. I have been intimidated by "heavy weights".

A more juicy layer to that confession - I am an ACE-certified personal trainer.

I recently started working with strength training professionals at Compass and Anchor Fitness and Performance. Derek Marsette and his trainers started with me where I am.

And their knowledge and approach have me opening up my mindset, seeing the possibilities, gaining strength, protecting my body, and elevating my mood.

It’s only my second week working out at CAFP, and I can totally see the importance of a growth mindset, and being willing to try. There is so much room for me to grow and be challenged in this new dimension.
