I have not been the most active on Facebook lately for a variety of reasons that honestly might make for a very interesting article or two at a future date. As the winter turns to spring and with that a much needed chance to get out into the garden (among other things), I am noticing a lot of views on my page. Just know I am around and if any of you have any question or need support on anything related to my practice, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I wishing you all a wonderful weekend! I have many exciting developments happening with my practice that I hope to be sharing with you in the near future. Among other things I'll be relocating my main office to the Thrive Center for Health: Dr. Molly DeMers and Lara O'Neil, APRN where I'll be offering Tuesday & Thursday in-person sessions. I will continue to offer in-person sessions on Monday at the Waterbury Office and telehealth sessions are currently being offered for my clients who would prefer the convenience (they are 100% covered by most insurance plans).

(I am currently in-network with most commercial insurance plans and most of them offer nutrition benefits for their subscribers)

I am also in the process of revising my website and am preparing to do some remarkable training to improve my skills when it comes to supportive digestive health - autoimmunity (and in particular addressing food sensitivities and related challenges) along with mental health.

Although I am not always the most active on my social media page or blogging (which I hope to change in the future), I am quite responsive to e-mails if any of you ever have any questions about any topic related to nutrition, functional medicine, regenerative agriculture, herbal medicine, or any other topics that I have discussed on this page, past blog articles, and public talks.

Personalized Nutrition & the Covid-19 Era

I know that many of you have asked me this year about how targeted nutrition combined with lifestyle interventions and other approaches might support our resiliency during these times. There are many ideas out there of course but here is a very well written and peer reviewed articles published by the board which credentialed me that provides a good place to start.

I just wanted to wish you all a very belated "Happy New Years - 2021."

This past year has been challenging at times but also quite productive for my practice. Especially with insurance carriers fully covering remote nutrition consultations and a greater recognition of the need to take care of our physical health (and I would also argue emotional, mental, and even spiritual).

Right now I am super busy between a physical move, upgrading my business platform, and upcoming workshops on digestive wellness, food sensitivity/inflammation trainings, and setting up some sophisticated menu planning software for my clients.

Regardless, I do hope to keep this page a bit more active this year. Don't hesitate to share with me anything that you would like to explore when it comes to functional nutrition, herbalism, gardening, and the many other things that I like to discuss in my talks and writings.

Once again, "Happy New Year - 2021" (and a good week),

Jay

It's been great finding so many new "likes" and "views" to the page over the past week or two. If there is anything in particular you would like for me to discuss or share over here please let me know! I've got some gardening updates that I have been meaning to share and would like to prepare some videos soon on herbs (cultivated and wild) that grow this time of the year.

I am also in the process of doing some major outreach to local libraries and possibly community centers in the region that might be open to a talk on naturally supporting our immunity for the upcoming "cold and flu season," and at a time when resiliency towards viral infections has become a major concern. I'll keep you all posted on this one and hopefully start sharing some blog entries as I proceed in my research.

Wishing you all the best here...

Bionutrient Food Association, Soil Testing, and Learning the Basics of Regenerative Agriculture:

This past evening I was asked about where people can go to learn more about building up really healthy soil in their gardens. My advise is to reach out to your local Bionutrient Food Association Chapters and/or watch some of the amazing videos that they are published on YouTube.

Here is a quick tour through the herb garden that I meant to share in our Zoom Call this Wednesday at the Byram Shubert Library (it's similar but a bit better than what I showed earlier). I don't know about all of you but I really enjoyed the Zoom format and hope to continue future talks throughout the season. This past talked focused more on nervine (relaxing) and adaptogenic herbs that we can grow in our region. I am thinking that this July we'll focus more on herbs that have more topical applications (minor cuts, but bites, poison ivy, etc). Let me know what you think?

06/02/2020

Granted this is very short notice, but if any of you are free this Wednesday evening (5:00pm) I'll be giving my first Zoom - Library talk ever! I am focusing the discussion on herbs that I have grown or are growing that are specific to relaxation and resiliency during uncertain times. Here is a link to sign up:

Radishes, Radishes, and more Radishes...What to do?

Growing up I never ate radishes, but as a gardener they have become a vegetable of interest. Why is that so? Well they can be planted early in the season and can sometimes be harvested in less than a month! The roots of course are a good source of beneficial plant-based chemicals and the tops have the same nutrient density of other dark leafy greens like kale. Plus if you let some flower you can further support the native pollinators and attract some beneficial insects.

So today I started pulling out some radishes from a "Easter Basket" mix from Bakers Creek Seeds (https://www.rareseeds.com/store/vegetables/new-items-2019/easter-basket-mix-radish) to make room for the cucumbers. I'll be eating some raw but if anyone has any favorite recipes feel free to share!

(BTW - As the Radishes matures they start to push themselves out of the ground and honestly kind of look like something that someone might pick up at an Easter Egg hunt)
