💡Where do you hold stress in your body??
⚡️We often think of stress showing up as tight shoulders or a clenched jaw.
But many people don’t realize it can also show up in the pelvic floor.
Because of the pelvic floor’s connection to the nervous system🧠, stress can cause these muscles to tighten or guard — just like other muscles in the body.
That’s why strategies that help calm the nervous system can support pelvic floor function.
For example:
🫁 Diaphragmatic breathing
Deep breathing helps activate the body’s rest-and-digest response, which can reduce muscle tension. It also supports the body’s pressure system (the diaphragm, core, and pelvic floor working together) so the pelvic floor can move and relax more naturally.
🧘♀️ Gentle movement or stretching
Movement helps muscles release tension and improves circulation to the pelvis.
🌿 Stress-reducing activities
Walking, meditation, or relaxation practices help shift the body out of a constant stress response.
👩⚕️ Pelvic floor physical therapy
A pelvic floor therapist can help address both the muscle tension and nervous system factors that may be contributing to symptoms.
Understanding how stress and pelvic health are connected is an important step toward supporting your body.💜
