Yesterday, one of our dedicated individual health educators, Crystal Frost, represented our team at the Community Resource Fair hosted by Pathways Behavioral Services.👏👏👏

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect 🤲 with families and engage with the community.

We shared valuable resources on child abuse prevention, healthy relationships, consent, healthcare services, and more. Thank you to everyone who stopped by!

This morning, we had the opportunity to represent Success Street and Together For Youth at the resource fair during Riverview Center’s 2026 Breakfast of Light.✨

The keynote speaker, Jim Schmidt, shared a powerful story of turning personal tragedy into purpose. A fire officer and instructor for more than 25 years, Jim became a national advocate after the 2021 murder of his stepdaughter, Gabby Petito. As co-founder of the Gabby Petito Foundation, he works to support survivors of domestic violence and raise awareness about missing persons, emphasizing trauma-informed prevention and leadership.

We left feeling both inspired and recommitted to our work to prevent s*xual violence and domestic assault. It’s on all of us to create a culture where violence is not tolerated.

Healthy coping looks different every day, and having a few go-to strategies can make a big difference during stressful moments.

✨ Distraction: music, coloring, crafts, or a change of scenery
🤝 Support: a quick call, in-person conversation, or reaching out to a counselor, Success Street provider, friend, or family member
🌿 Self-care: sleep, movement, time outside, hydration, deep breathing, or even a social media break
🧠 Dealing Directly: journaling, talking it out, or pausing for an emotional check-in

Students can stop by our West, East, or Carver Success Street sites to pick up a free healthy coping kit, or call 319-433-2780 to request one.

Whether it’s getting enough sleep, 😴 turning off your tech to recharge, 📵 going for a walk, 👟creating art, 🖼️ spending time in nature, 🌳 journaling your thoughts 💭—those choices matter more than you think.

This upcoming week, encourage students to stop by and share what they’re doing to take care of themselves. Let’s celebrate the small wins, build strong habits, and watch our jar fill up together!🙌

Myth or Fact? 🤔 If you are on birth control, you can’t get an STI.

MYTH! Hormonal birth control only prevents pregnancy. To protect against STIs, use a barrier method, like condoms.

Using condoms in addition to another birth control method can provide excellent protection against pregnancy AND STIs.
