Welcome to our new intern, Karen Mattera!!

Karen Mattera, M.M.E. (she, her) joined Connecticut Music Therapy Services as an Intern in January. Currently, she is enrolled in a music therapy equivalency program through Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in Terre Haute, Indiana. As an Intern, Karen will co-treat and lead sessions under the supervision of a member of our clinical team. As a certified teacher, Karen has taught music in Connecticut public schools for over twenty years. Her experiences include directing choirs, ukulele and Orff ensembles, and developing curriculum for a Kindergarten through 5th grade music program. She received her Bachelor's degree in Music from Western Connecticut State University and Master's degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Karen has been a part of the music ministry at St. Mary Church in Bethel, CT since 2003 as cantor and choir member. She has also composed songs for the adult and youth choirs. Upon receiving her certification, Karen plans to return to the schools, bringing music therapy services to children with special needs. With a love of music and desire to help others, Karen is thrilled to work with and learn from the talented team of music therapists at Connecticut Music Therapy Services!
