Ever wondered about yoga? Whether or not it was for you, or if you could actually do it. Whether you were flexible enough, or strong enough. Perhaps you've considered trying it, but then pretty much talked yourself right out of it. Or maybe you've taken a class or two, maybe even a "beginner's class", and left feeling disappointed, frustrated and wondering, 'What the hell just happened?'. Maybe you didn't like the teacher, maybe you didn't like their style, or the studio, or maybe it just wasn't the right time in your life.... I know I've been there! I've felt frustrated, disappointed, and lost, during and after, a class. I've disliked different teaching styles and I've tried yoga at times that really didn't fit. And I'm hoping for you, that's where my classes come in! Super gentle, slow flow classes, with modifications offered throughout and encouragement to truly listen to your own body; to allow it to decide if what I'm offering is really right for you. My classes focus on the mind-body connection, breath work and awareness.
Still not sure? Sign up for the first of my two 6-week series; the Beginner Breakdown Series where I break down the most common shapes (poses, or asanas).
Afraid you just don't have the mobility or stamina, join my Tuesday Chair class, my 6-week Chair Yoga series, or my primarily standing classes offered on Monday and Friday. What's that you say- Chair Yoga? That's right, you can totally do yoga in a chair! And what? Primarily standing? Yup! You don't even have to get on the floor unless you choose to.

All classes are taught at Peak Physical Therapy, located at 550 Chase Ave., Waterbury, CT, and there's no need to be a patient.

What is that, you ask? Let me tell you.... It's delicious ๐Ÿคค. It's a spinach and artichoke stuffed mushroom cap. I found the recipe online, A Couple Cooks; Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms. Check them out for the full recipe!! I will tell you here that, 1. It's vegetarian, 2. It's gluten free, 3. It's delicious (I couldn't help myself ๐Ÿ˜‚) and 4. I substituted the Greek yogurt- we didn't have any, for sour cream and it turned out amazing ๐Ÿคฏ As well, I only had 2 mushroom caps and chose to use the full package of spinach therefore we ended up with some extra filling. See what we do with it later in the week! I can't wait!! ๐Ÿ˜

Stay tuned for more yummy vegetarian recipes as I continue cutting meat out of my diet.

Well? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ What's your favorite time??

I love to practice first thing in the morning, to wake-up the body and set the tone for the day. ๐ŸŒž

I love to practice mid-day when I hit a slump and need to either reenergize or refocus my thoughts and energy. ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ

I also love to practice before bed, allowing me to slow down, stretch and unwind after a long day. ๐Ÿ’ค

Of course I failed to capture a "before" photo of my pantry cabinet.... Perhaps it's something psychological. ๐Ÿง I never manage to capture a "before" photo, and I say psychological because maybe, I'm too, subconsciously, embarrassed to capture my chaos. ๐Ÿค”

But! I digress.... I took the time the other day to purge, organize and label (gasp!) my horrendously over-filled, over-stuffed, unorganized pantry cabinet. Again. ๐Ÿ˜ณ I ๐Ÿ’“ the way it looks, and although hurtful, my husband quite **honestly** stated, "It looks nice, but we'll see how long it lasts." ๐Ÿ’”

What's going to make it different this time? Diligence, patience, labels (๐Ÿ˜†) and letting go of the habit to buy more than we need. Plus, focusing on what I ๐Ÿ’• when the cabinets look this way and remembering what it's like when they don't. ๐Ÿคฏ

I love having basic pantry items on hand- it makes cooking dinner quick and easy, which leads into knowing that, when it's a late night or dinner is last minute, we have what we need. I love having (at least) one extra of everything- it lets me keep it "in stock", while having the opportunity to buy it again only when it's on sale. ๐Ÿค‘ I love being able to see what we have with a quick glance, and I also โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ the peace it brings me. It's no longer overwhelming, stressful or depressing (it kinda made me feel like a failure) to open the doors and look inside. Ahhhhh....

Sometimes, completing a task like this, is super satisfying and motivational. It's encouraged me to move on to other parts of my home that stress me out and overwhelm me.

Do your pantry or kitchen cabinets stress you out? Have you done anything to try to tame them? ๐Ÿฆ What's worked? What hasn't? Is there another area of your home that overwhelms you? Share below. ๐Ÿค—

So perhaps it's not the prettiest bowl of oatmeal I've ever concocted, but it sure is yummy ๐Ÿคค

I know what you're thinking, "Oatmeal- Yummy? Really?"๐Ÿคข, and I get it! I do. Oatmeal in and of itself isn't anything to write home about. It's pretty standard, basic, bland.... Run of the mill, if you will. (Did you see what I did there?? ๐Ÿคญ) But herein lies the beauty of it, you can lend it to any flavor you'd like! Looking for sweet? Add honey, brown sugar, fresh fruit.... Think it's too mushy? Play around with liquid amounts and cook times.... Want a little crunch? Add cashews, cacao nibs, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds.... Looking for savory? Add a fried egg on top with a crumbled up piece (or two๐Ÿ˜‹) of bacon.... You can add things until you're โค๏ธ is content. Be mindful though! Oatmeal is very filling, so a lot goes a long way, especially when you're throwing toppings on.

Don't have time in the morning? Make it the night before, or make a bulk batch once a week using mason jars or whatever glass storage dish you have on hand. (Did you know that soaking your oats overnight helps break down the starches, making them easier to digest? ๐Ÿคฏ)

You can eat them cold- not my personal preference- or warm them up on the stove, or in the microwave. Hint: I find that when soaking them overnight, you'll need to add more liquid as you're heating or eating. The oats absorb all the liquid๐Ÿ’ฆ

How did I serve mine up today? With original Ripple milk, Bob's Red Mills gluten free oats, fresh banana, Justin's original peanut butter, chia seeds, cacao nibs, a small handful of raw cashews, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. I heated it up in the microwave and topped it off with fresh blueberries and a drizzle of maple syrup.

DM me for the complete recipe!

Thank you for the relief you have provided me over the years but, in the trash you go. ๐Ÿšฎ

Without saying that I "cured" my anxiety, I will say that I had a *really* good handle on it for awhile. I stopped taking Xanax as needed, I was able to exercise breathwork properly (anyone with anxiety knows that "deep breathing" doesn't always work, and can actually exasperate the situation ๐Ÿ˜ณ. Practice certainly makes perfect here!), I could logically talk myself out of the feelings I was creating in my own mind simply by thinking anxious thoughts. I felt really good.... Then. My allergies kicked in. Badly. ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿคง๐Ÿคง

I reached for my reliable Flonase. Day after day. Praying for relief from my year-round allergies (surprisingly, or maybe not so ๐Ÿค”, fall/winter is my worst time of year), I sprayed away. My allergies subsided, but my anxiety ramped up.

I couldn't really figure it out. Rather, I couldn't connect the dots. I was still doing "all the things", but it wasn't enough. I brought the Xanax back out, I started planning on how to get out of activities, and which way to go home was the best (the least anxiety inducing, that is). I thought it was my diet, maybe it was stress, maybe it was the shift in my normal day to day life.... All viable, valid considerations. But then it hit me!! ๐Ÿงฑ The effing Flonase!!!

I had read some years before about nasal steroids causing anxiety and panic attacks, or making them worse for those who already experienced them. Somehow I had conveniently forgotten... I looked into it again, just to be sure I wasn't confusing the Flonase with something else- I wasn't. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

So, join me in this final farewell to a handy, helpful, ally that ultimately turned out to be an enemy. Peace out yo!! โœŒ๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿคฏ That's how I feel about that quote, lol. What about you- how does it make you feel?
Do you believe it's true??
Do your dreams scare you???

I'll be honest, mine terrify me. I'm afraid of failing, I'm afraid of succeeding. I'm afraid of putting myself out there for people to judge me. I'm afraid of sounding stupid. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

BUT!!!! Everything we're afraid of can happen anyway, so why *not* dare to dream? ๐ŸŒ

With that being said, I'll say that I'm also really excited for the opportunity to connect with my peers, with my people, with you. I'm excited to share my knowledge. I'm excited to help other women heal from the inside out. I want to support them. I want to be for them, what I never had- a guide to hold my hand as I stumbled through life experiencing anxiety, IBS and chronic inflammation. A guide to help me **overcome and better manage** the anxiety, IBS and chronic inflammation. So gone are my days of bouncing from one doctor's office to another searching for answers, searching for relief, and getting none.

If any of this resonates with you, give me a shout-out below, shoot me a DM or send me an email (๐Ÿ”— in Bio).

01/23/2023

Inflammation is the body's natural response to an allergen, disease, pathogen, toxin, foreign body, or a cut, tear or laceration of the skin or muscle. It can occur throughout the body affecting different tissues, organs and body parts. According to Oxford Dictionary, the definition of inflammation is, "a localized physical condition in which part of the body becomes redden, swollen, hot and often painful, especially as a reaction to injury or infection."

Sometimes we know the direct cause; a paper cut, surgery, seasonal allergies, a new piercing or say, dairy, perhaps. Sometimes we are unaware of the direct cause, or we lack the education or understanding to know the cause. Think heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, IBS and autoimmune disease, to name a few...

Inflammation isn't always a bad thing though, and proves to be beneficial and necessary in some cases. It's actually a very interesting, fantastic, involuntary response (at least to us nerds ๐Ÿค“) Without it, our bodies wouldn't be able to heal. Cuts would never close, bones would never stay set and that "little cold" you had last week could become deadly.

It's the unnecessary inflammation, the chronic kind, that's a bad thing. Join me later this week to learn more about that, and learn different ways you can reduce, or prevent it.

Who's ready for a do-over? ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

I love all of the new year celebrations that occur over the upcoming months. I think of them as fresh starts. Opportunities to re-do January 1 if necessary. A chance to restart or reevaluate the habit changes we implemented 3 weeks ago.... Or 3 months ago (I'm looking at you April 1st! ๐Ÿง)

I mean honestly, for me, it's a chore to get through the holidays and they're only just coming to an end on the 1st, so to have a second shot at the new year is always welcome in my house!! ๐Ÿฅณโœจ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿงน

My hopes, goals and resolutions for 2023:
1. Eliminate my catastrophic thinking patterns ๐Ÿคฏ
2. Start making soaps and bath bombs ๐Ÿ›€๐Ÿผ
3. Practice my way through my Yoga Teacher's Toolbox book ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ (I think that's the title ๐Ÿค”)
4. Read 36 books this year; 12 pleasure, 12 personal growth, 12 educational ๐Ÿ“š
5. Walk everyday for a minimum of 10 minutes ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
6. Wrap Christmas gifts as they come into the house vs. wrapping ALL of them the week of Christmas ๐ŸŽ
7. Start the FOD-MAP diet again (and do it correctly!!) ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
8. Receive certification to become a personal trainer๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐ŸŽ“
9. Visit Vermont, Maryland and Florida this year๐Ÿงณ๐Ÿงญ
10. Spend at 30 minutes in my yard everyday ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒท๐Ÿฆ‹

How about you??? Share your thoughts below!!! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’•
