Our CEO, Dr. Tabinda Sarosh, recently visited our teams and partners in Tanzania. While in Morogoro, she met a dedicated taxi ambulance driver, part of the m-mama digitized emergency transport system, and a mother who reached urgent care just in time thanks to this life-saving connection.

Through m-mama, local taxis are digitally tracked and pregnant women with emergencies are transported directly to government health facilities for immediate care.

Since 2023, m-mama has responded to 10,500+ emergencies.

Pathfinder has been part of the m-mama partnership model in Tanzania.

We are proud to launch Futures with Choice (Futuros com Escolhas) in Mozambique!

With support from the Government of Ireland, International Development Programme, we are expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care for 14,000 adolescents in Inhambane province. This program provides health services, and creates vital links to education and livelihood opportunities.

Directly aligned with Mozambique’s National Family Planning Strategy, this project builds on years of collaboration with local government and civil society to strengthen the agency and resilience of women and girls.

In Ethiopia, Pathfinder has been working closely with government partners to introduce and scale up DMPA-SC, with a focus on self-injection. Over the past six months, our work has reached 69 facilities in four regions: Oromia, South Ethiopia, Sidama, and Dire Dawa. Through our efforts to build provider capacity and strengthen health systems, we have:

✅ Trained 548 health care providers
✅ Trained 301 Health Extension Workers (HEWs)
✅ Empowered 12,871 clients with the knowledge and skills to safely self-inject

Most recently, in close collaboration with the Oromia Regional Health Bureau, Pathfinder successfully trained 166 HEWs on DMPA-SC and self-injection. The images shared here capture a powerful moment from the training—women confidently demonstrating how they self-inject—highlighting skill transfer and client empowerment in action.

Together with government partners, we are expanding access to quality family planning choices and strengthening health systems to better meet the needs of communities across Ethiopia.

This January marks the 20th anniversary of Ethiopia's Safe Motherhood Month. Safe Motherhood Month highlights Ethiopia’s progress in preventing pregnancy-related deaths and achieving its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development goal related to reducing maternal mortality.

Last week, Pathfinder International joined the Ministry of Health and local leaders in Jigjiga, Somali Region to commemorate a landmark achievement: Ethiopia has reduced maternal mortality from 800 per 100,000 live births in 2000 to 195 per 100,000 live births in 2025. During the event, Pathfinder Ethiopia donated two electrical autoclaves and two delivery couches to strengthen maternal health services in the Somali Region.

Thank you to the Ethiopia Ministry of Health for bringing together state ministers, donors, civil society organizations, and traditional and religious leaders in celebration of Safe Motherhood. We are proud to be a part of this huge achievement!

What happens when you put women at the heart of climate action? You build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.

Over the past four years, our "Advancing the Leadership of Women and Girls Towards Better Health and Climate Change Resilience" program in Bangladesh and Pakistan:

🍃engaged 940 women and girls as climate champions who became frontline leaders in climate preparedness planning, green livelihoods, and speaking out against child marriage and gender-based violence.
🏥built climate-resilient health systems more capable of withstanding climate disasters.
👭🏾reached more than 2 million people with essential information on climate and health.

At Pathfinder, we work alongside women and girls in 16 countries to bridge critical gaps in health services, leadership opportunities, and economic resources.

In and then , our Act With Her program has been exemplary of this work.

Amal tells us why.

“Before joining [Act With Her], I was hesitant and afraid of direct engagement. I avoided trying new things, taking risks, or making mistakes — which meant I rarely took part in discussions or activities.

But this program was different. Today, I am a confident trainer who can work with people from all walks of life, personalities, and nationalities. Through Act With Her, I discovered strengths I never knew I had.

I am now proud of myself — and even prouder of the young girls whose success stories I have witnessed. Some became determined to achieve financial independence by starting their own businesses, using their talents to create sustainable futures. Others returned to school after long absences caused by societal traditions, and they are now excelling in their studies.

Perhaps one of the greatest achievements has been changing mindsets about early marriage; many girls now actively share these new perspectives with their families and communities.

For me, this is one of the most meaningful investments we can make — in young people’s minds, skills, and futures.”

The most powerful messages often come through art.

In Sindh, Pakistan, music, poetry, and theater are becoming tools for social change. 150 women, supported by their male allies, are delivering heartfelt performances that address critical issues: child marriage, gender-based violence, and women's agency.

This is especially vital now. With climate disasters creating economic hardship, early and forced marriages are tragically on the rise. Many of the women bravely speaking out were once child brides themselves, lending undeniable authenticity to their message.

As Rafeela, one of the performers, shares:

“People stop us, tell us not to sing. But we say—we should sing. Don’t listen to them, listen to yourself.”
This is what it looks like when women claim their voice and shape the future of their communities.
