Yesterday, we learned that Limerick Veterinary Clinic has announced its closure and that Dr. Mary Giaquinto is retiring.

We extend our heartfelt support to Dr. Mary and the entire Limerick team. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to our community have made a lasting impact. We are grateful for the collaboration we’ve shared and wish them all the very best in their next chapter.

We are honored to welcome many of their clients and patients during this transition. As we do, we are experiencing a higher call volume than usual and kindly ask for your patience. Thank you for your understanding and trust as we work to support every pet and family who needs us.

Today we’re recognizing World Spay Day! 🐾

Organized by the Humane Society of the United States, World Spay Day is an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering pets to help reduce overpopulation and improve animal health.

Why does it matter?
• Prevents unplanned litters and reduces the number of homeless pets in shelters.
• Supports longer, healthier lives by decreasing the risk of certain cancers and infections (such as pyometra in females and testicular cancer in males).
• Reduces behavioral concerns like roaming, marking, and some types of aggression.

Spaying and neutering is a safe, routine procedure that plays a vital role in responsible pet ownership and community health. By choosing to spay or neuter your pet, you’re helping create a future with fewer unwanted animals and more loving homes.

Every pet is unique, and timing can vary based on breed, size, age, and lifestyle. If you have any questions or concerns about the procedure, recovery, or the best time to schedule, be sure to talk with your veterinarian. We’re always here to answer your questions and help you make the best decision for your pet’s health. 🐶🐱

❤️🐾 Happy National Love Your Pet Day! 🐾❤️

At Watertown Animal Hospital, caring for animals isn’t just our job — it’s who we are. And today we’re celebrating the pets who stole our hearts first… our employees’ pets!

From couch-hogging dogs and judgmental cats to pocket-sized companions and barn favorites, these sweet faces are the reason we do what we do every single day. They’re our quality control supervisors, cuddle coordinators, and the inspiration behind the compassionate care we provide to every patient who walks through our doors.

Drop a photo of your pet in the comments so we can celebrate them too! 🐶🐱

Because loving pets isn’t just something we celebrate today — it’s something we live every day. 💕

❤️🐾 Valentine’s Day is full of flowers, chocolate, and sweet surprises—but many of these can be dangerous for pets. Lilies are highly toxic to cats, chocolate and xylitol-containing candies can be life-threatening to dogs, and ribbons or gift wrap can cause intestinal blockages if swallowed. Keep treats, bouquets, and decorations out of reach, and contact your veterinarian right away if your pet gets into something they shouldn’t. You can also reach ASPCA Animal Poison Control at 888-426-4435 for 24/7 guidance. Let’s keep the holiday safe and full of love! 💕🐶🐱

BINGO 🐾💙 The BESTEST boy (and fluffiest feline!) came to visit us at the vet!

This handsome guy strutted in with his gorgeous fluffy coat and cool-cat confidence.
He was calm and curious during his visit, taking everything in like the distinguished gentleman he is.
From his exam to all the extra attention, Bingo handled it all with quiet bravery and plenty of charm.

Even our team couldn’t resist all that fluff! 💙

It’s Hoof Care Month 🐴🐐🐄 — the perfect reminder that healthy hooves are the foundation of a healthy animal!

Strong, well-maintained hooves support proper movement, balance, and comfort. Routine hoof care helps prevent pain, lameness, infections, and long-term joint issues, keeping animals active and thriving. Regular trimming, clean and dry footing, good nutrition, and frequent hoof checks all play a key role in overall wellness.

Don’t forget—early detection makes a big difference. Changes in gait, overgrowth, cracks, or odor can be early signs of a problem. Partnering with your veterinarian and farrier ensures hooves stay healthy year-round.

Healthy hooves = happy, mobile animals! 💙
