During this National Grief Awareness Week (Dec. 2-8), let's shine a light on the grief that we carry. Loss is an inevitable part of life, and if we live long enough, we will all grieve various losses....losing a loved one, the end of a relationship, the death of a beloved animal companion, the loss of a job or our health. Maybe that friend of yours who is smiling really needs a shoulder to lean on in their time of grief....give the gift of being present & checking in on them this season. Grief has no time-line and the holidays can be especially hard for someone who is in the midst of grieving a loss.

As we head into the holiday season, and the days grow shorter, with darkness coming earlier, let's all have a bit more compassion for ourselves and others. Self-Compassion is a powerful practice that can ease our suffering, allowing us to be a bit more forgiving and caring to ourselves.

To all the Family Caregivers out there, November is a time to celebrate YOU, and all the compassion and care that you give to your loved ones every single day. Whether you are a parent caring for a special needs child, a spouse caring for a partner after a stroke, an adult child caring for a parent with dementia or anyone else who cares for their family members who could not care for themselves.....YOU make a difference and are a super-star! You are not alone....it's estimated that 65 million adults in the U.S. provide care to one or more family members, that's roughly 29% of the adult population.
