At Lakeside Neurologic, our mission is to support individuals on their journey to rebuilding the cognitive skills that empower everyday living. One of the most impactful approaches we use is Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT)—a personalized, evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals recover or compensate for changes in thinking abilities.

CRT focuses on strengthening or supporting key cognitive skills, including memory, attention, problem-solving, organization & planning, executive functioning, and social communication.

Every CRT plan is individualized, helping clients overcome challenges related to neurological injuries or conditions such as TBI, stroke, or other cognitive disorders. The ultimate goal: greater independence and improved quality of life.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month 💙

At Lakeside Neurologic, we recognize that brain injury doesn’t just affect one moment in time—it impacts the whole journey of the person’s growth, learning, and emotional well-being. Recovery is not just about healing the brain, but about rebuilding confidence, strengthening coping skills, and rediscovering independence.

This month, we stand with the children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating these challenges every day. Through compassionate care, structured support, and individualized treatment, healing is always possible—and no one has to walk that path alone.

Join us in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting brighter futures.

Wishing everyone a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

How to "Speed Up" Brain Injury Recovery

While there is no true “shortcut” to healing after a brain injury, the right approach can significantly improve recovery outcomes.

At Lakeside Neurologic, we focus on evidence-based strategies that help the brain heal as efficiently as possible:

🧠 **Start rehabilitation early.** Research consistently shows that early, targeted therapy improves long-term outcomes.

🧠 **Engage in cognitive rehabilitation.** Structured therapy helps rebuild memory, attention, executive functioning, and problem-solving skills.

🧠 **Prioritize sleep and nutrition.** The brain requires quality rest and proper fuel to repair neural connections.

🧠 **Support mental health.** Anxiety, depression, and trauma can slow recovery. Integrated behavioral health support is critical.

🧠 **Maintain consistency.** Repetition and routine strengthen neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to rewire and adapt.

Recovery is not about rushing the process — it’s about doing the *right things* at the right time with the right team.

If you or a loved one is navigating brain injury recovery, Lakeside Neurologic's interdisciplinary team is here to help.

A neurologic injury can change the way a person thinks, remembers, communicates, and manages daily life. Whether caused by trauma, stroke, lack of oxygen, infection, or another neurological condition, cognitive changes can deeply affect independence and quality of life.

Working with a cognitive rehabilitation therapist, usually a Speech Language Pathologist, can be a critical step in helping individuals rebuild skills, restore confidence, and return to meaningful activities.
At Lakeside Neurologic, cognitive rehabilitation therapy is an essential part of comprehensive neurorecovery.

What Is Neuro Occupational Therapy?

After a traumatic brain injury, stroke, or other neurological diagnosis, everyday tasks can feel overwhelming. Neuro occupational therapy helps individuals regain independence in daily living, cognitive functioning, and community participation.

At Lakeside Neurologic's Florida location, our occupational therapists provide specialized neurologic rehabilitation, focusing on:

✔ Activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, meal prep)
✔ Cognitive rehabilitation therapy (memory, attention, problem-solving)
✔ Upper extremity strength and coordination
✔ Community and school/work reintegration
✔ Return to meaningful leisure activities

As part of our post-acute brain injury rehab program, therapy is individualized, goal-driven, and designed to support real-world success.

If you’ve been wondering what neuro occupational therapy is, it’s about rebuilding independence—one impactful skill at a time.

Is Spinal Cord Injury a Neurological Condition?
Yes — a spinal cord injury (SCI) is a neurological condition.
Although it affects the spine, the spinal cord is part of the central nervous system, carrying messages between the brain and body. When the cord is damaged, those signals are disrupted, impacting movement, sensation, and everyday function.
Because of this, recovery requires specialized spinal cord injury rehabilitation and neurological care, not just orthopedic treatment.

Lakeside Neurologic provides rehabilitation for spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions. Visit our blog to learn more about spinal cord injuries.
