Michelle Miscenic-Patch and Samantha M. Rossi had an incredible and educational experience at the sold-out event at the Waukegan History Museum at the Carnegie!

Archaeologist Dan Melone presented “The Story of Early Waukegan and Lake County,” and it truly gave us a deeper perspective and appreciation for our local history.

One of the most fascinating parts was learning about the Native American burial mounds….there are around 400 known mounds still present in Lake County today!!!!

They sit quietly along roadsides, backyards, parks, and farmland. These sites are sacred and highly protected, and the fact that many remain unmarked helps preserve them and the stories they hold.

Our further fascination and research led us to learn about the Underwater Panther (Mishipeshu)…a powerful water spirit in Great Lakes Indigenous traditions. Many buildings and monuments include carvings inspired by these Native water spirits. Seeing these symbols in our local architecture makes the history around us feel even more alive.

What an inspiring day of learning, connection, and even more appreciation for the land we live on!

Eugene Anthony Boyle

Age 83 | Wadsworth, Illinois

Eugene Anthony Boyle, 83, of Wadsworth, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. He was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on August 23, 1942, the son of Fred and Madge (McBride) Boyle (both deceased).

He was the loving brother of Daniel (deceased), Mary (deceased), Brigid (deceased) and John (deceased), and is survived by his wife, Joanne Boyle; daughter Kerry (Matt) Marcinkus (Kyle & Sarah Ward(Great Granddaughter Madison Ward), Nick Marcinkus, Jake Marcinkus, Jadeyn Marcinkus); son Kevin Boyle (Kelsi Boyle, Kory Boyle); son Ryan (Aubrey) Boyle (Seamus Boyle and Ashling Boyle); and sister Marge Buckner. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever remember his humor, generosity, and warmth.

Born with a steadfast work ethic and a love of life’s simple joys, Gene dedicated 34 years of his career as a proud member of Carpenters Local 250, where he built not just structures, but lifelong friendships and a legacy of craftsmanship.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, stationed in Germany, where he developed a deep appreciation for discipline, precision, and camaraderie that carried throughout his life.

Gene’s greatest joys came from time spent in his garage — whether working on his cars, fixing anything that needed repair, or preparing for another run down the drag strip at Union Grove, Wisconsin, where he raced into his 80s. His passion for mechanics and motion was matched only by his enthusiasm for gun shows, swap meets, and the satisfaction of a day’s hard work.

Above all, Gene cherished his family. He was devoted to the love of his life, Joanne, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, loyalty, and love that extended to their children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter — the pride of his life.

Visitation will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, Illinois, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. CST.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Interment with Military Honors will take place at Ascension Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1920 Buckley Rd., Libertyville, Illinois, at 12:30 p.m.

Those who knew Gene will remember his kind heart, his unstoppable energy, his stories from the shop and the track, and his quiet way of showing love through the things he built — for his family, his friends, and his community.

Did you know- The Peterson and Patch Funeral Home was established as Marr, Reid & Company in 1865. It is one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Waukegan, IL and Lake County. The firm was located in several locations on Genessee St. until it moved into the present location at 408 N. Sheridan Rd. in 1919. The owners at that time, Frank I. Peterson and William B. Wetzel purchased the Judge Frances E. Clarke home which was built in 1875.
One of the largest private residences in the city when it was built, it is an example of the transition from Italianate to Queen Anne styles. The warmth and distinction of the home lends itself well to serve families in their time of need. The original beauty and character of the gracious old home has been scarcely altered since the days when horse drawn carriages brought Waukegan's elite to call, causing it to be listed as historically and architecturally significant in our jet age.

Michael Steven Wolfe, born August 13, 1939, in Waukegan Illinois passed away in Sun City Arizona on October 5, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer, with his daughter Dina by his side.

Michael married the love of his life, Rosemary, in 1966 in Chicago. Together they raised two daughters, Dina and Ruth. A devoted husband and father, Michael took great pride in providing for his family. He especially cherished family vacations, camping trips, boating and in his younger years, skiing with Dina, a skill he mastered while working as a ski instructor in Colorado.

Michael retired from Abbott Laboratories after more than 30 years of dedicated service, during which he steadily advanced through the ranks. Growing up on Grove Avenue in Waukegan, he formed a lifelong friendship with Gilbert Dorsey. Guided by a strong Lutheran faith, Michael found great meaning in his many years as a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. The youngest of three children, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Whittington and Dolores Bizer, and his parents, Stephen and Ethel.

Known for his warmth, humor, and infectious laugh, Michael was always the life of the party. In his later years in Sun City, Arizona, he enjoyed entertaining neighbors and friends with cocktails, stories, and lively games of Ship, Captain, Crew, Dominoes, and Yahtzee—often bending and revising the rules

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary, in 2012, and his daughter Ruth in 2022. He is survived by his daughter Dina (Kevin) Donovan of Arizona; grandchildren Nicole Donovan of Arizona, Matthew (Westlin) Donovan of Illinois, Emily Long of Arizona, and Mellena (Dakota) of South Carolina; nephew Douglas (Suzanne) Bizer of Washington and great-granddaughters Henley, Tamsen, and Quinn.

A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Michael enjoyed the friendly banter with his daughter Dina over their opposing football loyalties—his to the Bears, hers to the Packers. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Arizona. His legacy of laughter and love will live on in all who knew him.

A private celebration of life will be held in Arizona.

Michael was born on August 13th, 1939 and passed away on October 5th, 2025 at the age of 86
