We offer specialized treatment programs for patients recovering from stroke, brain injury, neurological conditions, trauma, spinal cord injury, amputation and orthopedic injury as well as other injury and illness. Our rehabilitation programs are centered around the individual needs of each patient to improve health, function and quality of life. Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities differ from other post-acute options most notably in the amount of therapy offered and medical oversight provided. We offer specialized therapy, rehab-trained nursing care, rehabilitation physician involvement and disease state management tailored to our patient population. Our patients receive at least 3 hours of therapy at least 5 days each week.

Jeff started his recovery at RHOW on October 12 after undergoing elective neck surgery to address the significant numbness and weakness in his legs. On his evaluation, he was requiring two members of our team to assist him with his self-cares and was unable to walk, using a wheelchair as his primary way of moving around. He leaves our hospital requiring minimum assistance for his self-cares and is able to walk using a wheeled walker and guiding assistance. His personal goal was to walk by the time he left RHOW, and he did just that and more! Jeff echoes his improvement, stating, “It’s been unbelievable progress. I came here needing two people to help me, and now I can walk with a walker.” Congratulations on all your hard work, Jeff! You have been an inspiration to us all! %

Recovery looks different for each of our patients, which is why our therapists make it a priority to incorporate a variety of techniques and treatments.

Musical therapy is just one of the many ways we connect with patients on a level outside of traditional PT, OT and Speech Language Pathologist.

Today is World Stroke Day, a global campaign to enhance awareness of the seriousness of stroke, increase knowledge of risk factors, and promote prevention and treatment.

The emphasis is on recognizing stroke symptoms based on the F.A.S.T. method (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call emergency services) or B.E. F.A.S.T. (Balance, Eyes, Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call emergency services).

Featured here are Amy and Erika, RHOW clinical liaisons, who today are engaging with staff and community at ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital. They are sharing resources on stroke identification and prevention and educating on the CARF accredited Stroke Specialty Program at RHOW.

Patients who recover from a stroke at RHOW overall achieve outcomes higher than the national average. Go to www.rehabhospitalwi.com to view our results.
