Late winter is a time when Cold can start to settle into the body. The nature of Cold is stagnant and descending, so any lingering dampness in the body can really be exacerbated by invading Cold. Sauna Therapy is great because it does two things- warms up the interior slowly, but also allows for the release of dampness via sweat. Win win! This site provides a great description of how dampness and cold can manifest in the body. Stay warm y'all!

Ear Seeds (Auricular Therapy):
A great way to extend the benefits of your acupressure session. Small seeds (usually from the vaccaria plant) are placed on points in the ear and stay there from a couple days to a week. Why is this helpful? Because it allows the acupressure points to be stimulated that whole time. The ear is a microsystem of the whole body, meaning each area of the body can be accessed through these points, making it beneficial for a variety of conditions, including:
Allergies
Insomnia
Anxiety
Addiction
Migraine

Ear seeds are a perfect way to explore the healing qualities of acupuncture without the needles. If this sounds right for you, ask me about auricular therapy at your next session!

This is a great article on Spring in relation to TCM’s 5 Element Theory. My wise colleague and mentor Acupanda Dr. Zhang notes that spring is a time of growth, however meaning that old preexisting conditions can also “grow up”. Meaning disharmonies in the body (Liver disharmonies especially like depression and anxiety or suppressed immune function) can worsen in springtime, hence the cold and flu season with increased wind. So this is a great time to cleanse your body and mind of things that no longer serve you. A great way to do this is exercise. Exercise is tremendously cleansing for the mind and organs. All seasons are important, but spring is a particularly important season for manifesting good health and peace of mind.

P.S- I am a broken record on this one but please wear your scarves!!! Wind invades the neck and throat area easily. People are always very eager to hop right into a tank top when it hits 60’s, but keep your meridians warm, and sweat a little bit, it’s good for you😊

Spring cleaning begins within: body, mind, and spirit.

Protect Your Lungs!
It's important every fall season, but even more so with the current state of things.
The lungs are the first line of defense against the outside world, and are one of the most sensitive organs. In Chinese Medicine they govern what is called Wei-Qi, which is the energy circulating between skin and muscles that warm you and fend off invading pathogens. Having weak Wei-Qi can make you susceptible to frequent colds this time of year. The back of the neck is particularly vulnerable to invasion by wind and cold. Traditional Chinese Medicine calls wind the "Master of 100 Illnesses". So wear that scarf and look cute doing it!
Fall is the preparation for winter, and our bodies adjust mentally and physically. The lung has an emotional association with grief and/or letting go. Many people find it hard to let go of summer, and this can manifest in the body.
This fall, try breathwork, or strengthen your lung channel through Acupressure massage or Acupuncture. Set goals for yourself, or work on finishing ones you set in summer -- "Harvest the bounty of your hard work!"
Acupressure Massage is still discounted 20% until December 1st! Come visit me!
