The Wisconsin Northern & Central (WiNC) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium was formed to address the need for additional graduate medical education resources for the northernmost thirty-seven counties in Wisconsin.

The MCW-Central Wisconsin Psychiatry Program came together to celebrate the holidays and the strong sense of community that makes this program so special. Our Institutional Coordinator, Julie, and our DIO, Dr. O’Connell, were able to join in on the fun. We are grateful for the residents, faculty, administrators, and community faculty for all they do to enhance psychiatry training and expand access to care throughout Central Wisconsin.

🍽 Wellness Wednesday at Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency 🌱

The residents visited the Food + Farm Exploration Center and participated in a "quick cooking" class where they learned three delicious recipes including potato gnocchi!

After sharpening their culinary skills they explored the grounds and even took a moment to admire the world’s largest potato masher standing over 38 feet tall! 🥔🔍

Wellness events like this help the residents recharge while learning new skills and connecting with the community.

🍲 The Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency program recently hosted a potluck featuring a friendly soup cook-off! 🍲

Our very own Julie Richards, Institutional Coordinator and Jami Kaiser, Director of the Center of Excellence & GME Leadership Academy, had the honor of judging the seven delicious entries.

✨ The coveted Golden Ladle was awarded to Kristin Whitaker, MD - community staffer and alumna of the program - for her outstanding butternut squash soup. ✨

We just wrapped up the first virtual session in the GME Leadership Academy Excellence in Medical Education series, following our in-person kickoff—and what a powerful start!

Dr. James Billings led us through the Science of Learning & Teaching and Facilitating Learning, exploring how to foster intentional, high-impact learning environments for our future physicians. From retrieval practice and adaptive learning to creating psychological safety and embracing humility in teaching—this session reminded us that great educators are always learning too.

🎓✨ Collaboration in Action! ✨🎓

Last week we hosted an in-person shared didactic day in Appleton at the Mosaic Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency program, bringing together 40 family medicine residents from three of our programs:

- Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine Residency
- MCW-Prevea Green Bay Family Medicine Residency
- Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency

Residents and faculty gathered for an afternoon full of learning, networking, and shared growth. This event fostered cross-program collaboration, enriched educational experiences, and strengthened the community of future family physicians across Wisconsin.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, presented, and helped make this day a success!
