What you drink can affect more than you think.

Alcohol doesn’t just impact the moment—it can affect your sleep, mood, and overall health over time.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:
• Alcohol can disrupt sleep and increase blood pressure
• It’s linked to several types of cancer
• Cutting back—even a little—can improve your health

You don’t have to make big changes all at once. Small steps matter. 💚

SAFE ACTIONS SAVE LIVES!

During National Work Zone Awareness Week, we’re reminded that every day, our Waushara County Highway Department employees put themselves at risk simply by doing their jobs—working on the roads we all use.

Behind every work zone sign is a person. A neighbor. A family member.

You can help keep them safe:
• Slow down in work zones
• Stay alert and avoid distractions
• Follow posted signs and flaggers
• Give workers plenty of space

A few extra seconds of caution can save a life.

Let’s do our part to keep everyone safe on our roads.

Today was Wear Orange Day to show our support to the men and women of the Waushara County Highway Department for National Work Zone Awareness Week.

Every day, they’re out on our roads—keeping them safe, maintained, and moving—often just feet away from passing traffic.

We wore orange as a simple way to:
🧡 Show appreciation
🧡 Raise awareness
🧡 Stand behind those who keep our roads safe

🚩 New in Waushara County: Air Quality Flag Program Starts TODAY! 🌎

We’re excited to bring a new tool to our community that helps make air quality easy to understand—at a glance.

Starting today April 22 (Earth Day), you’ll begin seeing colored flags at:
📍 Fox Valley Technical College (Wautoma)
📍 Waushara County Fairgrounds
📍 Waushara County Highway Department

So…what do the flags mean? Each color represents the daily air quality based on the Air Quality Index (AQI):
🟢 Green – Good
🟡 Yellow – Moderate
🟠 Orange – Unhealthy for sensitive groups
🔴 Red – Unhealthy
🟣 Purple – Very unhealthy

These flags are a simple way to help you make informed decisions—whether it’s planning outdoor activities, protecting your health, or checking in on loved ones who may be more sensitive to air quality.

💡 Why it matters:
Air quality can change day to day, and having this visible reminder in our community helps keep everyone aware, prepared, and safe.

🤝 Want to be part of it?
We’re still looking for additional community partners to host a flag location! If your organization is interested, we’d love to connect. (public.health@wausharacountywi.gov)

📲 You can also check daily conditions anytime at: https://www.airnow.gov/

Let’s work together to keep Waushara County informed, healthy, and breathing a little easier 💚

Wear Orange. Show Your Support.

This National Work Zone Awareness Week, we’re asking our community to Wear Orange on Wednesday to show support for the hardworking men and women of the Waushara County Highway Department.

Every day, they’re out on our roads—keeping them safe, maintained, and moving—often just feet away from passing traffic.

Wearing orange is a simple way to:
🧡 Show appreciation
🧡 Raise awareness
🧡 Stand behind those who keep our roads safe

Let’s come together as a community and remind our highway workers that we see them, we appreciate them, and we support them.

Don’t forget to wear orange this Wednesday!

Small changes can make a big difference. 💚

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, a time to reflect on how alcohol may be affecting your health and well-being.

If you choose to drink, there are simple ways to reduce harm:
• Eat before drinking
• Set a limit that works for you
• Alternate alcohol with water
• Plan a safe ride home
• Get enough rest

Even small changes—like drinking fewer days per week—can improve your overall health.

You know your body best. Your health. Your choice.

If alcohol ever feels hard to manage, support is available right here in Waushara County:

Taking a break doesn’t mean missing out. 💚

April is Alcohol Awareness Month—a great time to check in with yourself and consider what feels right for your health.

If you’re looking for alternatives, try mixing up a simple mocktail at home:
🍓 Berry Fizz – sparkling water + frozen berries + splash of juice
🍋 Citrus Refresher – lemon or lime juice + water + mint
🍍 Tropical Splash – pineapple juice + coconut water + ice
🍎 Apple Ginger Spritz – apple juice + ginger ale or ginger beer (NA)
*Make it special add fresh fruit or herbs!

Sometimes, taking a break can be a good thing.
Take care of yourself and find what works best for you.
