Authentic Baby #1455 was born under the stars of the Nest on a sunny Sunday afternoon to a mama who showed incredible strength and courage. With Dad speaking words of love and prayer over his family, they welcomed their new addition into their arms. Many thought they could guess the gender of this little one, but Baby had a surprise in store! These parents exemplified love and partnership throughout their labor and as new parents. Authentic Baby #1452 was born in the Nest to this first time mom who came in just the nick of time. A super fast first labor is unusual, but this mom relaxed into her body so well as she allowed baby to come. Dad caught his baby with the biggest smile ever; and so much hair!! Hey there! I’m Marissa, a second‑year midwifery student at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (SWTC) and the newest Student Midwife at Authentic Birth Center. I grew up in the Windy City, and today my life is a bustling blend of babies, microgreens, and fur‑baby cuddles; four adult children and two four‑legged sidekicks keep my heart (and my schedule) full!

I’m a Certified Birth, Postpartum, and Fertility Doula, an urban farmer who specializes in microgreens, and a budding herbalist who’s always hunting for the next plant‑based remedy. When I’m not elbow‑deep in birthwork, you’ll find me gardening, hiking, traveling, or crocheting the blues away.

My mission? To champion the autonomy of every pregnant and birthing person while fighting Black maternal and infant morbidity and mortality one empowered birth at a time. Let’s celebrate life, love, and a little laughter together!

Authentic Baby #1450, sibling to #1304, slipped into the warm waters of Sophia Suite enfolded in their sac. This little one let Mom know when it was time to come to the center, and Mom and Dad were able to settle in before baby came--a hope that followed a very fast previous birth. Mom lifted baby into her arms and covered them with kisses, praising Jesus for new life. What a way to welcome a new member! Enjoy your rest under the stars.✨

They made their way through the Wisconsin Spring snowstorm this weekend in the perfect time. Authentic baby #1447, sibling to Baby #1255, was gracefully birthed into the blue waters of the Nest and reached their arms up right away to touch Mama’s face. This mom laughed and smiled through her labor and was pleasantly surprised by process this time, exclaiming, "That wasn't so bad!" mere moments after birth. A six-week postpartum visit is always so bittersweet. It’s a time to celebrate healing, admire the growth of a new little one, and answer final questions—but often it’s also our last visit together after weeks of building trust, vulnerability, and relationship.

To this sweet family: thank you for so much laughter, swapping stories of travels and adventures, and for offering us steak numerous times 😂. And truly, thank you for your confidence in us and for entrusting us with the care of your growing family.

To every family we’ve had the privilege to care for: thank you for letting us walk beside you in such a sacred season. Watching you grow into parenthood is a privilege and an honor we carry with us. 💕✨
