Timber Ridge Bison

Timber Ridge Bison A family run bison ranch started in 1956 providing breeding stock, and healthy naturally raised bison Thank you for your support! The Wedekings

We are a 4th generation bison ranch that began in 1956 with a herd of 3. Over the years we have strived to develop a herd that is known for their conformation, temperament, and dark color. We now have close to 200 head roaming the hills south of Waverly and Clarksville. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to provide our community with a local, healthy food source. Our goal is to raise our bison in a manner that is consistent with its creation. As a ruminant animal, bison are designed to consume grass, and can reach optimal health by eating healthy pasture grass and hay, drinking fresh water, and having plenty of room to move and graze each day.

~TEACHABLE TUESDAY~
For many of our bison cows, it's nearly calving time. While some early calves are already dotting the pastures with their cinnamon colored coats, the majority of our bison calves will be born from April through early June. After nine and a half months, the bison cows are ready for their offspring to make their entrance!

Bison calves are precocial, meaning they can stand, walk, and run within hours of birth. This is a critical survival adaptation, as it allows them to stay with the herd, which offers protection.

The calves are born with their eyes open and their teeth already in place. While they primarily sustain on their mother's milk, bison calves begin nibbling on the grass and drinking water within the first week after birth.
