Timber Ridge Bison

Timber Ridge Bison A family run bison ranch started in 1956 providing breeding stock, and healthy naturally raised bison Thank you for your support! The Wedekings

We are a 4th generation bison ranch that began in 1956 with a herd of 3. Over the years we have strived to develop a herd that is known for their conformation, temperament, and dark color. We now have close to 200 head roaming the hills south of Waverly and Clarksville. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to provide our community with a local, healthy food source. Our goal is to raise our bison in a manner that is consistent with its creation. As a ruminant animal, bison are designed to consume grass, and can reach optimal health by eating healthy pasture grass and hay, drinking fresh water, and having plenty of room to move and graze each day.

Hohúkȟažuŋta (Rib Sled)
A winter favorite for Lakota boys and girls, the hohúkȟažuŋta was traditionally made from buffalo rib bones. One half of the sled used ribs from the left side of the buffalo, the other from the right—carefully bound together with elk rawhide. Split chokecherry sticks helped form its structure.
A buffalo hide was placed on top before a child climbed aboard. Many children preferred to stand, gripping the strap as they slid downhill through the snow.

Once driven to the brink, the bison’s return reflects resilience shaped through protection and respect. Indigenous nations have always known the bison as relatives, not resources. 🌾

Their survival mirrors the endurance of the people who depended on them and honored them.

This image reflects strength regained and balance restored. 🌀
