Kris Knox, 200hr ERYT, YACEP created Waxhaw Yoga to bring the benefits of yoga to people who never would have thought they'd step into a yoga studio. A safe, welcoming space for all people to come to move the body and quiet the mind. Whether you have an established practice or haven't ever tried yoga, this is the place for you. These three ladies have been showing up to their practice whenever they have the time because they know its not about intensity, its about consistency. They have made the choice to take care of themselves so they can then take care of everything and everyone around them.

We are so proud of these special ladies and their dedication they have for their practice. We are so grateful and thankful they have chosen WY for their yoga home.

"When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind."

Root to rise, at the purely physical level, means to be pressing down into the earth, to feel steady in your foundation. From there, we are able to breathe with ease and find balance.

We then use what we practice on our mats, to pause, ground and breathe before the big game, important meeting or decision, which helps us to find a new perspective and improve our everyday lives.

Practicing yoga is really very simple. You focus on your breath. You arrange your body like a cobra or a tree. You balance the best that you can.

Yoga can strengthen your muscles, increase flexibility and circulation, boost your immunity and calm your nervous system.

Yoga also strengthens your spirit. With a regular yoga practice you become less reactive in stressful situations. You blow off criticism more easily. You stand your ground more firmly. You start to notice the way the light shines through your window in the late afternoon. You feel spontaneous moments of gratitude during an otherwise mundane moment or a stirring of compassion for the people around you.

How does this work? How does physical exercise become something else entirely?

It starts when you realize you can quiet your mind with your body. When you lie down calmly on your mat, you learn to truly relax. When you fall down in a balancing posture, you learn that you can survive, and even laugh at, your failures. When you pay attention to each toe in a standing pose, you learn awareness.

These benefits follow you off your mat and weave themselves into your daily life.
