At this time, DPH is projecting that Georgia WIC will have sufficient funding to provide WIC benefits through approximately the first week of December and maintain clinic operations through the end of the year. WIC participants should continue to attend appointments and use the eWIC cards at authorized Georgia WIC vendors. A break in WIC benefits could occur depending on the duration of this extended shutdown. DPH also continues to evaluate options to extend benefits as long as possible. Protect yourself from phone scams asking for your health information!

From time to time, the Southeast Health District (SEHD) will contact patients via phone call for appointment reminders, phone surveys, or other patient-related communications. It is important to know the difference between legitimate calls from the SEHD and those from scammers trying to trick you into sharing your private information.

Here are some tips for knowing the difference between a real phone call from the SEHD and a scammer:
The SEHD will never ask for religious information.
The SEHD will never ask for credit card information.
The SEHD will never try to sell goods or services.
The SEHD will always provide a callback number or contact information for verification.

If you have questions about a call you receive, or if you’re unsure whether it is from the Southeast Health District, hang up and contact your local county health department by calling 1(855)473-4374.

To report a suspicious call, please contact DPH’s Office of Inspector General at (404) 656-4409 or reportdphfraud@dhr.state.ga.us.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Each year in the United States, roughly 255,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Through mammograms, clinical breast exams, and risk‐based screening, cancer can frequently be identified at earlier, more treatable stages.
