The Birth Circle

The Birth Circle I am a childbirth doula/educator, and apprentice midwife serving the Greater Philadelphia Area. Professional site: http://www.sacredcirclebirth.com Welcome!

My name is Brittany and I am childbirth/bereavement doula, apprentice midwife, community breastfeeding educator, birth artist, maternity/birth photographer, and soon-to-be Lamaze childbirth instructor serving the Greater Philadelphia Area. I am also the mother of two children and have given birth in both a hospital and at home. I am a DONA trained childbirth doula, having trained in NYC in 2012. I began my doula career with the Hudson Perinatal Consortium (HPC) of North Jersey as one of 15 women awarded a fellowship grant to serve low-income families in Hudson county. During my tenure at HPC I served teen, VBA2C, and single mother clients in need. I studied under notable educators including Jill Wodnick and Debra Pascali-Banaro between March-December 2012.

- I began work with Birthing Gently NYC private doula group

- I trained as a bereavement doula through the Stillbirthday 8-week curriculum in 2012.

- October 2012 I became certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program with Karen Strange.

- November 2012 I received training as a Community Breast Feeding Educator with the New York City Department of Health. December 2012 I received training as a Community Breast Feeding Educator *Trainer* with the New York City Department of Health.

- April 2013 I departed for the Philippines to begin an internship with Shiphrah Birth Center, a NARM international preceptor site, where I spent over 2 months living and working at the birthing center. Shiphrah provides full-spectrum perinatal and well-woman midwifery care to impoverished women of Taytay, Rizal. During my time at Shiphrah I participated in the births of 59 women, 23 of whom I served as primary midwife under supervision. I learned midwifery skills including suturing, resolving shoulder distocia, IUD insertion, pap smear, administration of pitocin and methergine for post-partum hemorrhage, fundal massage, manual removal of retained placenta, and more.

- October 2013 I gave birth to my second son in our home on the Mainline of the Greater Philadelphia area.

- February 1-3 I will participate in a Lamaze Instructor seminar taught by Judy Lothian in NYC

It is not only ‘Ok’ but it is *inperative* that we allow our children to witness the motherbaby engage in breastfeeding. The nature of women’s bodies has been so deeply perverted and warped in the collective conscious of our culture that the only remedy is to flood the eyes and minds of our people, particularly our children, with these wholesome and beautiful images of mothers and their nursings breastfeed.

The patriarchy has redefined the role of women’s breasts as s*xual playthings, and while breasts can be a wonderful extension of s*x and romance, they are first and foremost the food for babies.

ITS TIME WE LET GO OF PUR VIRGIN MARY COMPLEX!!!! The ideal mother is NOT a virginal youth who bypassed any s*xual contact to be miraculously impregnated with the “savior”.

Mothers are deeply s*xual and wise beings. They are also the most wholesome creatures on the planet. A mother’s s*xuality is NOT mutually exclusive with her inherent wholesomeness as a nurturer for our most precious resource- our babies. S*x is NOT dirty. S*x is spiritual. It is the physics act of love and True Romance. The act of conception is a holy event, something that transcends the mortal sphere and brings us closer to God.

Breasts are s*xual but this does NOT exclude them from being wholesome. They are wholesome first and foremost.

It is HEALING AND NECESSARY in developing healthy children that they be exposed to as many images and living examples of breastfeeding babies as possible. The very sight of the motherbaby duality has the power to heal the world for all of our deepest psychological wounds.

DO NOT SHIELD YOUR CHILDREN FROM THEIR NURSLING COUNTERPARTS!!! Breastfeeding is so much more than perfect nutrition: it is the epitome of the motherbaby ecosystem, and a thriving breastfeeding relationship with extend well into early childhood.

WE MUST FLIP THE SCRIPT AND RECLAIM THE WHOLESOMENESS OF FEMALE BREASTS!!!!
S*x and motherhood are not incompatible, rather they are deeply interdependent.

FLOOS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BREASTMILK, MY PRECIOUS SISTERS AND MOTHERS!!! I love you deeply and am brought to tears with pride over each and every woman who breastfed, whether or be one moment, one day, one week, one month, one year or many, or even simply in your dreams.

If you support and stand in solidarity with breastfeeding women, then you stand for world peace.

Peace on Earth Begins with Birth and the Mamatoto.

God bless your breastmilk.

Happy Black Breastfeeding Week!!! To my sisters of color: whether you brewmasters for one hour, one day, one month, one year, or many... you are a nothing short of magical ❤️ today we honor you and the sacred bonds of nourishment and love shared between mothers and their nurslings. It is our divine motherhood which not only connects us as a sacred tribe of women across the globe, but as to our ancestral spirit as we nourish our babies the way our foremothers nourished our mothers and ourselves. Much love and respect to all!

Editing birth pics and I wanted to share this one haha: I photographed the after birth of Carmelo (left) and the photo became something of an inside joke and community favorite. So we brought it back for Winter's Birth (right) at Kate's (my midwife) suggestion :) a birth photographer is always a birth photographer!!

Speaking of which: I am dying to start photographing births again, so if anyone is interesting in hiring me, I'm going to give some good deals for the first few clients who hire me back from my hiatus. Drop me a line! email me at brittanystanley@gmail.com

{Winter's Birth} During Winter's birth, Joell was there every step of the way. From my first contractions where he held my hand at the zoo and told me, "Don't worry mommy... you won't be alone. Me and Carmelo and Daddy and going to stay with you the whole time while you have your baby, so don't be worried." (I could cry), to him kneeling down next to me and rubbing my back during a contraction in the kitchen, to being there through each moment once Winter was Earthside. He loved his little sister from the moment he saw her on the Ultrasound screen and he hasn't left her side since he's met her.
Here, my oldest son (age 6) Joell helps the midwives with the newborn exam. He measures Winter who was 22inches at birth. The power of a brother's love is indescribable.
Carmelo, my middle baby (age 3) adore his sister also... but I tend to see his relationship with her more as friends- he looks forward to playing with her and confiding in her as an equal. He keeps asking if he can bring her to school with him so he can introduce her to his friends and teach her how to play with them. Joell is the protector of them all. And of course, Joe and I are the roof over our children's head. They are always safe and always loved. We are now a family of 5 and I can't believe the love I feel in my heart.
