FAQ: Should I avoid high-impact workouts with varicose veins?

You don’t have to stop being active, but it’s important to listen to your body. Exercise is actually beneficial for vein health because it helps improve circulation. However, extremely high-impact or heavy-resistance workouts can sometimes worsen discomfort in veins that are already weakened.

Low-impact activities like walking, swimming, or cycling, along with compression stockings if needed, are often safer options.

As temperatures rise, many people notice their vein symptoms become more noticeable or uncomfortable.

Warmer weather can cause veins to dilate, which may lead to increased swelling, heaviness, aching, or fatigue in the legs—especially for those with vein disease.

Venous insufficiency, a condition that can lead to varicose veins, often causes swelling (edema) in the legs, ankles, and feet. This occurs when blood flow is slowed, creating a backup and increased pressure within the veins.

Edema from venous insufficiency may be asymmetrical, meaning one leg can be more affected than the other. Early recognition and management can help reduce discomfort and prevent further complications.

Ambulatory phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that removes large surface varicose veins through tiny incisions — no stitches required.

Compared to traditional vein stripping, this technique offers:

• Virtually no scarring
• Minimal side effects
• Quick recovery with very little downtime

Performed right in the office under local anesthesia, it’s a safe and effective way to restore smooth, healthy-looking legs.

Welcome to ACP Vein Center

At ACP Vein Treatment Center in Wayne, we treat venous diseases in men and women with painless, minimally invasive vascular surgeries.

The most common of these include treatments for varicose veins and spider veins. Although many people think of these as cosmetic conditions, they are progressive diseases that can develop into serious medical issues, including discoloration and ulceration.

We have provided quality care of the venous system in Passaic County for more than 20 years through our sister practice, Advanced Cardiology Practice. Our new ACP Vein Center in Wayne is dedicated entirely to the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders.
