Tonight we had a great time with local Scout group #98935 learning how to be future lifesavers! đźš‘

Our volunteers showed them some basic first aid, let them try a little CPR, and of course gave them a tour of our ambulance. The equipment, and all the “cool stuff” inside were definitely a big hit!

We love teaching young people how to help others and who knows…maybe we met a few future EMTs tonight! 👩‍🚑

We've got crews prepping for the storm, and by prepping, I mean they're not just ambulance-ifying, they're also cooking up a storm to feed the crews stuck in this weather mess.
So, you know what to do when you spot one of our Volunteer EMTs - give 'em a big thank you for their service. It would be very much appreciated!!!

Meet our outside Trustee Matt….

1. What inspired you to join the first aid squad?
I joined the Wayne First Aid Squad when I was 16. My parents were both involved in emergency services, and seeing that commitment to helping others at home inspired me to follow in their footsteps. Twenty one years later, I am still proud to serve Wayne.

2. What’s the most rewarding part of being on the squad?
The friendships. The squad became a second family that I never expected to be a part of, and I am grateful for the people I have gotten to serve with over the years.

3. What are your hobbies outside the squad?
Outside the squad, I enjoy traveling, spending time down the shore, volunteering as a firefighter in town, and spending time with friends and family.

Meet our inside Trustee Tanya…,

1. What inspired you to join the first aid squad?

During college I worked at a local pizzeria/restaurant, and one of my coworkers, who is also a squad member, kept suggesting that I join. As soon as I finished my last semester, I knew I'd have the time to commit to the EMT class and joined. Becoming an EMT and seeing what we do in the community was a big part of what led me to be a nurse.

2. What’s the most rewarding part of being on the squad?

Well, I feel there's 2 parts... being able care for the community, being there to help someone during their worst day, and knowing you may have made a difference is rewarding. But, the relationships and bonds formed with the people I've met is an even bigger reward. I have made friends for life. It really is another family.

3. What are your hobbies outside the squad?

Im sure there are a few people that would say cooking!! Thats true, i really enjoy cooking. I also enjoy travelling, reading, working out with friends, going to concerts, and any creative outlets like coloring/painting, glassblowing.. whatever.

Meet our Membership secretary Rachel…

I’ve always wanted to help people in some form or another and I was also interested in becoming a first responder. Joining the squad seemed to be the best way to do both! That, and my ex husband didn’t think I could do it so naturally I had to prove him wrong.

The most rewarding part of being on the squad is when you are able to change someone’s life trajectory for the better. Sometimes just being at the building, ready to help can mean you make it to a critical call that much sooner and help someone in need. It is a wonderful example of how your own individual choices can cause a domino effect, even if they are simple things like arriving a few minutes early and checking the equipment.

Outside of the squad, I work at Trader Joe’s. I’ve become a bit of a crazy plant lady. I also enjoy playing video games, walking in nature, and I’ve been focusing very hard on my own nutrition and fitness lately.

Meet our corresponding Secretary Caity!!!!

I was inspired to join the Wayne First Aid Squad because I wanted to be able to help people. While I was at Wayne Day about 10 years, I spoke to some of the members and they encouraged me to apply.

The most rewarding part is knowing that I helped make a difference when someone needs it the most. Whether it’s providing care when someone is sick or injured, or just reassuring them during a difficult time is rewarding to me. I have also made so many new friends over my years on the squad. Everyone is truly one big family.

Outside of the Wayne First Aid Squad I am a Kindergarten teacher in Newark. I love traveling, especially to Disney and on Disney cruises. I also love making things with my Cricut machine!

❄️🚑 This weekend’s massive snowstorm tested our roads, our response times, and our endurance, but it also highlighted the incredible dedication of our members.

Throughout the storm, our Rescue Support Unit 988 was deployed to plow routes to 911 call locations and hospitals, helping keep responding crews in Units 972 and 974 safe on snow-covered roads. Our teams also responded to a fire standby with Units 971, 972, and 974 alongside Fire Companies 3, 4, and 5.

It was a long, demanding day, but once again our members went above and beyond to serve the Wayne community with professionalism, teamwork, and heart. We are endlessly grateful for their commitment, no matter the weather. đź’™

As our community digs out after the storm, please continue to take things slow. Icy sidewalks, hidden snowbanks, and slick roads can still pose serious hazards.
The Wayne Township Memorial First Aid Squad remains ready to respond—24/7.
