Meet our corresponding Secretary Caity!!!!

I was inspired to join the Wayne First Aid Squad because I wanted to be able to help people. While I was at Wayne Day about 10 years, I spoke to some of the members and they encouraged me to apply.

The most rewarding part is knowing that I helped make a difference when someone needs it the most. Whether it’s providing care when someone is sick or injured, or just reassuring them during a difficult time is rewarding to me. I have also made so many new friends over my years on the squad. Everyone is truly one big family.

Outside of the Wayne First Aid Squad I am a Kindergarten teacher in Newark. I love traveling, especially to Disney and on Disney cruises. I also love making things with my Cricut machine!

❄️🚑 This weekend’s massive snowstorm tested our roads, our response times, and our endurance, but it also highlighted the incredible dedication of our members.

Throughout the storm, our Rescue Support Unit 988 was deployed to plow routes to 911 call locations and hospitals, helping keep responding crews in Units 972 and 974 safe on snow-covered roads. Our teams also responded to a fire standby with Units 971, 972, and 974 alongside Fire Companies 3, 4, and 5.

It was a long, demanding day, but once again our members went above and beyond to serve the Wayne community with professionalism, teamwork, and heart. We are endlessly grateful for their commitment, no matter the weather. đź’™

As our community digs out after the storm, please continue to take things slow. Icy sidewalks, hidden snowbanks, and slick roads can still pose serious hazards.
The Wayne Township Memorial First Aid Squad remains ready to respond—24/7.

What inspired you to join the first aid squad?

Interestingly enough, I had always had an interest in joining the Wayne First Aid Squad. A friend who is also a squad member approached me about becoming an ambulance driver. At the time I had no formal medical training, but I figured I could drive an ambulance, no problem. After signing on and joining as a driver for about two years, my daughter also joined the squad. She told me she needed a study buddy to take the EMT Certification course, so I joined her. Together we studied, passed the class and both received our EMT certification. Now we pull duty on the same night, one of us on the uptown crew and one on the downtown crew.

What is the most rewarding part of being on the squad?

I would have to say being able to help people in their true moment of need. Many of the calls we receive are first-time situations that people find very stressful; unknown sickness, unexpected falls, car accidents, etc. Our job is to provide them with comfort and security, and to see to it that they receive the medical assistance needed during this their of need.

What are your hobbies outside the squad?

As a former Scout Leader, I enjoy being outdoors in nature, as well as attending local car shows in the summer months where I often drive my classic muscle cars.

My grandfather always encouraged me to do something EMS related, but it was never something I was interested in at the time. One day, sitting in my high school English class, I decided to fill out the application and see what happens. I didn’t tell my grandfather I had joined until after I completed my EMT program when I finally handed him my certification.

Today we are highlighting our Assistant Chief, Chitta…

What inspired you to join the first aid squad?

Believe it or not it was plain and simple I wanted to help within the community. And the thought of helping others medically drew me to the first aid squad. Then once I started I was hooked. So I was also being a little selfish as my wife was a nurse and if I could learn something in that field it would give us more to talk about and bring us closer together.

Whats the most rewarding part of being on the Squad?

Knowing what I did made a difference. Whether it was just taking someone to the hospital who had no other way to get there or being able to actually intervene in an emergency to change an out come for the good. We have as most squads do a dysfunctional family with it’s many different personalities and traits. But when the need arises, we function as a well oiled machine. And this machine has given me some very special friends.

What are your hobbies outside the Squad.

Pretty much anything that makes me use my hands and my brain. Period. I love building stuff, whether it’s redoing my kitchen cabinets or remodeling the first aid buildings TV room the end product is such a reward. Oh yeah, and anything the grandkids want..
