Meet our Squad member Trey….

I joined the squad as a cadet when I was 16 in order to learn new skills and and help my community. I was a boy scout and really enjoyed first aid and emergency preparedness and thought it would be a great way to get involved (I was right)!

The most rewarding part of being on the squad is the amazing people you get to meet and become friends with, there is such a wide variety of people from different backgrounds that you cannot find elsewhere.

Outside of EMS, I enjoy sailing, skiing, hiking, and shooting 🙂

Today’s meeting included a very special guest—baby Theo whose delivery was assisted by our squad members Esteban and Bill came with his parents Dana and Craig and proud big brother callum. Seeing him happy and healthy was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. 💙

Wayne Alliance’s Harlem Magic Masters vs. Wayne Teachers and Principals basketball game was this past Friday at Wayne Valley High School.

Wayne Township Memorial First Aid Squad was on stand by at this amazing event.

We would like to thank Wayne Alliance for all they do to raise awareness and educate our community on drug and alcohol prevention.

Meet Mark…..

1. What inspired me to join
My wife Jackie and myself moved to Wayne in 2022 from NY where I was involved in EMS since 1972 starting out as a first aider, then an EMT and then a paramedic. After living in Wayne for about 1 1/2 years, I heard that the ambulance squad was actively looking to increase their membership. I was retired from the New Rochelle FD and had a lot of free time so I applied and was accepted as a probationary member.

2. The most rewarding part of being on the squad.
Meeting people. When I get to help people that are over 100 years old.

3. What are my hobbies outside of the squad.
I have 9 grandchildren that keep me very very busy.

Wishing all who celebrate a Happy Easter.

Huge congratulations to Esteban and Bill for an incredible job delivering a healthy baby boy in the field! Not everyone can say they helped bring a new life into the world on an ambulance call—seriously impressive work.
Thanks to WPD and St. Joes medics for their assistance!

Proud moment for the squad—way to step up when it mattered most 🚑👏

Meet Debbie our Chaplain….

1. What inspired you to join the first aid squad?

Actually, I saw an ad in the Wayne Today that said the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad needed volunteers and that retirees should consider becoming a member to serve our community.
I wasn’t retired, and I thought I was too old, but I sent my application in anyway and was delighted to get a call back from Daria, who said that my age was no problem!
I have always loved helping people and giving back; even when I ran my gymnastics and swim programs over the years, so I hoped I would be a good fit.

2. What’s the most rewarding part of being on the squad?

Oh, there’s many rewarding parts. Being trusted by the squad to be their Chaplain and the great feeling I get when I’ve helped somebody and saved their day. Not to mention, the feeling of becoming a part of the wonderful family the Wayne First Aid Squad squad is.

3. What are your hobbies outside of the squad?

Being with my grandchildren is always at the top of my list. I love bike riding and could spend the whole day going all over the place exploring. I also love teaching; I’ve been teaching since I was 17. And I believe ice cream is a food group. You should have it every day!

Meet Taima ……

1. What inspired you to join the first aid squad?
When I first moved to Wayne, I wanted to get involved in the community and help others in a meaningful way. Hearing the ambulance sirens all the time made me realize how busy WFAS is—and I love staying busy! I knew right away this was the place for me.

2. What’s the most rewarding part of being on the squad?
The most rewarding part is being able to make a difference for our patients. We always go the extra mile to provide the best care possible. Whether we transport them or not, knowing we made them feel heard and cared for is what matters most.

3. What are your hobbies outside the squad?
I’m currently in my last year of PA school, so outside of that I love going to kickboxing classes to stay active—and of course, a little shopping here and there!

Tonight we had a great time with local Scout group #98935 learning how to be future lifesavers! đźš‘

Our volunteers showed them some basic first aid, let them try a little CPR, and of course gave them a tour of our ambulance. The equipment, and all the “cool stuff” inside were definitely a big hit!

We love teaching young people how to help others and who knows…maybe we met a few future EMTs tonight! 👩‍🚑
