Let’s give a big Summit Square welcome to our newest residents, Ron and Trish Higgins!
🏡

The Higgins bring a wealth of experience and heart to our community. Ron spent his career in City and County Planning for Charlottesville and Albemarle County, while Trish served our region as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) & instructor of nursing at UVA. Currently, Trish is a full time seminary student and lay pastor at Ashland Presbyterian church

When they aren't out serving the community or exploring their passions, you’ll find Trish enjoying her love of learning and being a student of life, and Ron catching up on sports or a good book.

Coming from a background of planning and care, they certainly knew a good move when they saw one!
They are just in time to avoid the stress of "Nature's white blanket".❄️
While most are stuck shoveling and de-icing, Ron and Trish will be cozy and warm, enjoying the "worry-free" side of life at Summit Square.

Welcome home, Ron and Trish! We are so glad you chose to grow with us.✨

National Library Shelfie Day is celebrated on the fourth Wednesday of January every year. It encourages people to share photos of themselves with their favorite library bookstore or home bookshelf using the hashtag . Started by the New York Public Library in 2014 this day is all about celebrating reading and the joy of libraries.

Did you know Summit Square has its own well loved library right here on campus? We would love to see what you are reading. Share a photo with us in the comments whether you are curled up at Summit, at the local library, or even reading on vacation. We do not care where you read as long as you are reading a good book! :)

Leah Pack did not come to Summit Square because she was finished. She came because she was planning.

At 81, Pack has lived long enough to know the difference between an ending and a transition. She has also spent a lifetime watching what happens when people wait too long to prepare for either. Her husband, Bob, died last spring at 94 after a rapid decline that collapsed years of anticipation into a matter of weeks. One week in the hospital. Five weeks in health care. Decisions made while grief was still finding its footing.

Someone said it was snowing?! 😉

A huge shoutout to our staff for showing up and being there for Summit residents. We are grateful to weather the storm together on a beautiful campus, alongside even more beautiful residents, colleagues, and friends.

Stay tuned for more photos later today. Thank you, Heather Manley, for sending these photos over!

When the snow starts falling, some people think cozy days and cancelled plans. We think warm smiles, extra coffee, and showing up for the people who call Summit Square home. In senior living, weather doesn’t change the mission and neither does the heart behind it. Today we took a little extra time to celebrate and thank the team members who will be here this weekend, because this crew shows up with care no matter what’s coming down from the sky.

When a recruiter reached out about an opportunity in Virginia, Jason Gray listened. Summit Square offered something he had been quietly looking for. A place where his skills as a chef and his instincts as a leader could exist together. A place where hospitality meant knowing the people you serve.

Now living in Staunton and settling into his role at Summit Square, Jason feels a sense of alignment that had been missing before.

“What I love here is that I still get to cook, but I also get to know the people I’m serving,” he said. “You see the same residents every day. You build relationships. You see the joy on their faces. That part matters.”

Pizza day = best day 🍕
Our Summit Square crew took a little field trip to Dani’s Pizza. Nothing beats getting out together, sharing a meal, and making sweet memories one slice at a time.
