LifeLine Screening is coming to Horizons Therapy June 22. They saved my life by finding a blockage in my internal carotid artery caused by radiation years ago. I had surgery to open the artery last year. I am very thankful which is why I am hosting them this year. If you use the number on this flyer to schedule, you save $30 on their services.

Fascial Counterstrain is a gentle, hands-on technique designed to address the specific tissues responsible for pain and limited joint mobility. The treatment helps relieve muscle and connective tissue tightness by allowing areas of inflammation and restriction to settle and release.

During a session, the practitioner carefully positions the body into positions of comfort and ease while applying gentle gliding to shorten restricted tissues. This approach helps calm overactive protective reflexes in the body.

As these reflexes relax, patients often experience an immediate reduction in pain and tension in the affected tissues. Counterstrain not only helps the muscles, but also the supportive network of connective fascial tissue that surrounds and connects structures throughout the body.

My mentor, Brian Tuckey, recently published an article on chronic pain. Out of curiosity (and creativity!), I put the article into AI and asked for a fairytale synopsis. What came back was the incredible story of “Bodyland” — a whimsical retelling of a very real and complex subject.

Since I don’t have children at home anymore, I read the fairytale to Toto. He completely upstaged me by falling asleep halfway through. Honestly, I’m taking it as the highest compliment — a cozy story, a relaxed pup, and a peaceful moment.

Science, storytelling, and a great dog. Not a bad combination. 🐾

Be careful out there with shoveling this heavy snow/sleet. Some tips to keep you safe.
* Breathe-Holding your breath while lifting can cause severe back pain and disc issues.
* Switch sides- We all have a dominant side. We prefer to hold the shovel one way. We prefer to throw the snow to one side. Switch it up. Doing something rotational always to the same side will also put your back in danger.
* Lift properly- Keep your back straight. Avoid letting it round. Instead bend at your hips and knees. Pivot to avoid twisting.
* Take breaks- It doesn't have to all be done at once. Come inside, drink some water and resume again after a break.
* Get your children to do it for you. Good luck with this one.
