Ever since I started offering infusion chair-side hand and foot massages at UVA's Cancer Center Augusta, I've been asked a lot of questions about the benefits of massage during cancer treatments. This article offers a helpful overview. During cancer treatments, and long after some procedures, gentle massage is imperative. No deep tissue. I've lost count of the times a new client has told me they came in expecting to have to suffer through a painful massage in order to gain therapeutic improvements. "No pain no gain" does not apply to massage therapy. Thank you, American Massage Therapy Association - AMTA, for addressing this, and other pervasive myths, in Massage Today.
