Community Breakfast at Givens Great Laurels!

This morning, residents at Givens Great Laurels enjoyed a warm and welcoming community breakfast; made even more special by the presence of visiting Western Carolina nursing students!

The students jumped right in, serving residents with smiles, kindness, and great conversation. Moments like these highlight the heart of our community: connection, service, and shared experiences across generations.

Thank you to the nursing students for your time and care, and to our residents for making every gathering feel like home.

At Givens, we began our celebration of MLK, Jr. Day early as a Platinum Sponsor of the MLK, Jr. Association of Asheville & Buncombe County's 45th Annual MLK Prayer Breakfast. Givens residents and teammates alike were inspired by the speakers and the lifelong commitment to justice, equality and the beloved community of our local association's Founder & President, Dr. Oralene Simmons.

Today is a special day of remembrance for us all as we remember the lessons of Dr. King and hope to continue his teachings through small, consistent acts of kindness and courage, whereby we lift each other up and embody the change we wish in the world.

When SNAP benefits became uncertain, many residents in our affordable housing communities faced added stress about meeting basic needs.

Thanks to the Resident Assistance Ministry Fund, Givens Philanthropy provided Publix grocery gift cards to help ease this burden.

One resident shared:
“I began to tear up when I received the financial support as things have been very stressful with finances. Receiving these grocery gift cards was a huge blessing, especially since the holidays are coming up.”
Together, we reaffirm what makes Givens special: an organization where care is not just a value, but a promise lived out every day.
