What if our children aren’t being defiant… but human?

So often, we jump to correction before connection. But when we lead with curiosity—“I think you forgot”—we leave room for growth instead of shame.

Kids rise to the story we tell about them. When we believe in their goodness, they begin to believe it too. 💛

Small, consistent moments. 💛

Small, consistent moments. 💛

A child’s behavior is often a reflection of how full (or empty) their emotional cup feels.
Connection, validation, and encouragement go a long way. 💛 🥤
Filling their cup doesn’t take big moments, just small, consistent ones.
The way we listen, validate, and connect becomes their inner voice.

After taking some time away to focus on my family, I’m grateful to be back in the office and seeing clients again. 🤍

I’m currently accepting new clients on Saturdays in Aledo, Texas. I provide counseling for children, teens, and adults, supporting concerns like anxiety, stress, relationships, and life transitions.

I also enjoy working with student-athletes and teens navigating the pressures of sports. With many years of experience playing and working with athletes, I understand the unique challenges that can come with competition, performance pressure, injuries, and balancing school, sports, and even navigating identity and life after sports.

If you or someone you know may benefit from support, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to connect.

Maya Angelou said, “People will never forget how you made them feel.” Kids are no exception.

Our tone, presence, and how we use power are sending powerful messages about how they should behave in the world.

I don't think we mean to send the message, "When you're young or have less power, you have to comply — otherwise, you can control."

But that's what they hear. They internalize values from how we make them feel while we lead, not the commands or demands we make.

Compliance might change behavior in the short-term.
Connection changes how kids make decisions in the long-term.

The holiday season can bring a mix of emotions, memories, and challenges that differ from person to person. Here's why it's important to recognize this:

❤️‍🩹🎄 Personal Loss or Grief: For those who have lost loved ones, Christmas can amplify feelings of sadness and longing, as traditions and gatherings may feel incomplete.

❤️‍🩹🎄Financial Pressures: The commercial aspect of the holidays can create stress for people struggling to meet expectations or make ends meet.

❤️‍🩹🎄Family Dynamics: Not everyone has a supportive or harmonious family, and the holidays can bring tension or highlight painful relationships.

❤️‍🩹🎄Loneliness: For some, Christmas may emphasize isolation, especially for those who are far from family or don't have a close community to celebrate with.

❤️‍🩹🎄Mental Health Challenges: The societal pressure to feel joyous can make it harder for those dealing with depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues.

❤️‍🩹🎄Cultural or Religious Differences: Not everyone celebrates Christmas or shares the same traditions, and feeling "outside" the norm can be isolating.

By acknowledging these realities, we can make space for compassion, understanding, and inclusivity, allowing people to honor their feelings and experiences, whatever they may be. Christmas doesn't have to be "wonderful" for it to be meaningful or for people to find moments of peace in their own way..
