🌸
The va**na is an extremely resilient part of the body.

Its abundant elasticity and blood supply helps the va**na heal from any normal tears that may occur quickly and is usually back to normal within six weeks of childbirth or less.

Hold the mother, not the baby.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Because the baby’s being taken care of—⁣⁣
fed, snuggled, and given all the love in the world—⁣⁣
by not only the mother,⁣⁣
but her partner, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and friends.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But the mother,⁣⁣
may have gaps in her mind from lack of sleep,⁣⁣
may be mechanical in her motions as she’s healing,⁣⁣
may feel more like a mess than a mother,⁣⁣
may be sitting in bed, crying, feeling overwhelmed in her body and life,⁣⁣
may be full of mom guilt because in her mind, "she's not good enough,"⁣⁣
and she’s bleeding, wincing in pain, swollen and emotional.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And the mother’s that baby's whole world and needs to be seen, so she doesn't disappear into that postpartum fog.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So, hold the mother, not the baby.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A mother agrees that her baby matters more.⁣⁣
But she’s hurting, while she’s the person behind the baby,⁣⁣
in the background, making it all happen:⁣⁣
feeding her baby at all hours,⁣⁣
snuggling her baby close to comfort newborn cries,⁣⁣
and being that baby’s everything.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So, it’s the mother who needs your love.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And a mother will remember who held her up.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So instead of β€œI’m coming to see the baby,”⁣⁣
try saying, β€œI’m coming to see you 𝘒𝘯π˜₯ meet the baby, too.”⁣⁣
⁣
Because the mother needs to be held more.⁣⁣

Have you ever really though about what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph? They were so young, all alone in a new place and they had nowhere to go. They didn't have a doctor, they didn't have an epidural or GBS testing, forceps or episiotmies. Nothing sterile and nothing planned. There was blood and meconium and vernix and a placenta and Joseph would have had to have stepped up and helped. He learned as he went.

I wonder if Mary was scared or excited, or a bit of both. I wonder if she asked other women for advice and motherly knowledge or if she just trusted her own instinct. I wonder if she knew about the things that *could* go wrong, or if she just trusted that her body was made to give birth, and that it would know what to do.

I wonder if Jesus' cord was wrapped around his neck and if Joseph calmly unwrapped it. I wonder if Jesus cried straight away or took his time. I wonder if she tore, and if breastfeeding hurt. I wonder if she felt immense pride that she brought her baby into the world in a stable, with just her man by her side. I wonder if she felt innately safe because she lived in a time when they knew that birth is not inherently dangerous. I think she would have trusted her body and the process of birth.

Maybe freebirth isn't such a crazy idea after all. Maybe it's how we were made to birth.

Rub it in, not off!!

Vernix is the white, creamy substance that coats your baby's skin while in utero. It helps protect your baby's skin from bacteria inside the womb and at birth.

Vernix is made up of lipids, amino acids, proteins, and antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that help keep your baby healthy. 61% of these proteins can only be found in vernix. This is why it's important to delay your baby's 1st bath until all of it can be fully absorbed into their skin.🌸

Delayed cord clamping is so beneficial. Clamping the cord should not be done immediately after birth. The majority of the babies blood is still in the placenta and needs time to pump into the baby. Wait until the cord is flat, white, and not pulsing.

Look at this gorgeous cord! Photo taken 18 minutes after birth. You can see the vessels collapsing from the baby’s side.

Note: This was a 41 weeks, 6 days pregnancy. πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Placenta Rituals Across Cultures ~
The Baganda of Uganda believe that the placenta is actually a second child. Not only is it the child’s double, but the placenta also has its own spirit that resides in the umbilical cord. The portion of the cord attached to the baby must be carefully preserved to ensure the good health of the child.
Borneo Sea Gypsies ~ After the mother has given birth, a traditional midwife will carry the placenta and umbilical cord to the shore, and will perform a burial ritual on the island. The bajau believe that throwing the placenta to the sea will bring misfortune and bad luck. The sea is a sacred place for the Bajau and according to their belief if they will throw it at sea the fish will eat it and then they will eat it. This will brings bad luck.
Peru ~ Legend has it that Inca Yupanqui built a palace to house a gold statue of his mother Mama Rawa Occlo. Inside it he placed the placenta from his own birth. The Incas of Peru would dry out the umbilical cord and give it to the child to chew on later on while teething.

Hawaii ~ Native Hawaiians treat the placenta as a sacred part of the baby. When it is buried in nature, a tree is planted over it so it grows with the child.
China ~ The Chinese are big believers in the restorative powers of eating the placenta. Ziheche dried human placenta, is used in traditional Chinese medicine and consumed by the mother right up until menopause.
New Zealand ~ β€˜Whenua', the MaΜ„ori word for placenta, is also the word for 'land'. MaΜ„ori people insist that the placenta and umbilical cord are buried together in a special receptacle on the child's native land, creating a special relationship between the newborn baby and the earth.
Cambodia ~ Cambodian people believe that burying the placenta is key to ensuring the health of the baby and its mother in the future. It is wrapped in banana leaves and kept near the baby for three days before a burial ceremony.

The power woman hold is incredibly amazing!

After she changed positions - it didn’t take long for her to feel pushy. Just a short minute later, she roared her baby out and into the world. It was incredible!! βœ¨β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
