Tomorrow marks one week until Christmas. What is your favorite Christmas song?

For me, it’s “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” based on the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It was written during the turmoil of the Civil War. It expresses despair, but finds hope in the message of the bells, bringing “peace on earth, good will to man.” It has a message that applies to every generation, even today.

You cannot deny a profound lyric like:
“Then pealed the bells, more loud and deep, God is not dead nor doth he sleep; the wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to man.”

This morning I delivered the toys from the toy drive to Parker County Center of Hope. In talking with Staci Markwardt, it looks like the number of children who will be served through toy donations will exceed 1200 kids. That’s just the number that will be served through their organization. We are glad to be able to play a small part in helping those less fortunate this Holiday season. Thanks to Courtney McKeown for helping unload and the photo opportunity.

We are still accepting donations of toys through this coming Friday. The toys will be delivered to Center of Hope on Friday afternoon. Please consider helping donate to benefit this worthy cause and bless families this holiday season.

As we enter the holiday season, it becomes a time of reflection and counting our blessings. With that sentiment in mind, Browning Funeral Home has partnered with Parker County Center of Hope on a Christmas Toy Drive. We are accepting donations of new and unwrapped toys from now through Friday December 5. Last year, Center of Hope distributed approximately 4,000 toys to children in need. With the current economic state, it is anticipated that the need this year will exceed last year’s number. Please consider donating to help provide a little Christmas cheer. The drop-off location is Browning Funeral Home, located at 116 Wheeler Street, Weatherford.
