February 22 was originally set aside as a federal holiday in 1879, commemorating the birthday of George Washington. In 1971, Congress moved the observance to the third Monday in February, changing the name to "Presidents' Day," to honor all United States Presidents. This date was positioned between the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and George Washington (February 22).

It is a day that encourages appreciation of American history, constitutional principles, and the ideal of public service.

Fun Fact: The official name of the holiday remains Washington's Birthday in the United States Code.

As we embark on the journey that will be the year 2026, it is important that we take the time to reflect on the past year. 2025 has left each of us in a different place to begin the journey. Wherever the starting block may find us, our wish for 2026 is that we each are able to grow in faith, hope, and love. May we show more kindness to others, love deeper, and slow down to savor life and look for the blessings; even when they may be hidden.
