STRESS AND YOUR EYES. When life feels overwhelming, your visual system often feels it right along with your mind and body.
Here are a few common ocular effects of stress we see in practice:
🔹 Eye strain & fatigue – Stress tightens muscles throughout the body, including the tiny muscles that help your eyes focus.
🔹 Blurred vision – Elevated stress hormones can temporarily affect focusing ability and tear film stability, leading to intermittent blur.
🔹 Dry, irritated eyes – Stress can decrease blink rate and impact tear production, worsening dryness and discomfort.
🔹 Eye twitching – Stress + fatigue + caffeine are common triggers.
🔹 Headaches – When the eyes are working harder to stay aligned and focused, symptoms can include pressure around the eyes and temples.
🔹 Eye infections — lack of sleep compromises your bodies immune system making your eyes more susceptable to conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other eye infections.
Many stress-related vision symptoms are temporary — but if your vision feels “off,” don’t ignore it. Let’s rule out any underlying conditions and make sure everything is healthy.
And even if stress is the cause, we can often help relieve the discomfort so your vision is more comfortable.
