Let’s talk about Leaks!

Let’s face it no one wants to admit it and many of us have accepted it as “something that comes with motherhood”. NEWS FLASH Leaks are not normal!!

The most common form of incontinence for moms is stress incontinence. Stress incontinence is when you can not control the leaking of urine when there is added pressure in the abdominal cavity, such as when you cough sneeze or laugh.
During pregnancy the added weight can strain the muscles of your core, including your pelvic floor, combine that with a vaginal delivery which can weaken muscles needed for bladder control and also damage bladder nerves and supportive tissue, leading to a dropped (pr*****ed) pelvic floor.
This is not something you have to deal with forever! Knowing where to start is key for overcoming your leaks. Finding a pelvic floor physical therapist will help you learn techniques to strengthen your muscles beyond the kegel. If you need more help than physical therapy a Urogynecologist is a doctor who specializes in pelvic floor disorders and can take a deeper look into the leaks.
Having a strong supportive team around you will help get you through these issues and onto living a life leak free!

It is Maternal Mental Health week!

Each pregnancy can with its highs and lows of emotions. From unplanned teen, planning then loosing, and postpartum depression my lows brought me down to the lowest times in my life. Now having a wonderful supportive husband and having the blessing of staying home with my 4 beautiful children, my highs are thankfully more frequent than not.

What does your maternal mental health look like?

**Note** Our campaign illustrations are based on the ACTUAL journeys of three REAL moms. Britt, Keyla and Laura are moms that bravely volunteered to share their stories with us. We thank them for being vulnerable and sharing their truth. We are honored and touched they were willing to share such powerful moments with us.

While pregnancy is an exciting time for many women, not every woman enjoys pregnancy. For many women, it can be a scary, uncertain time with filled with unknowns, anxieties, doubts and fears. The unrealistic expectation that a pregnant woman is always excited sets her up to feel guilt and shame. Next time you see a pregnant woman, don’t assume that she is elated. Rather, ask her how she is feeling and how you can support her.

Remember, maternal mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and OCD **CAN** happen during pregnancy. You never know what a mom-to-be is hiding behind her mask of fake smiles. If you or a mom you know is struggling, ask her how she is REALLY feeling and let her know there is help available. Provide Postpartum Support International’s Warmline: 1-800-944-4773.

Share this post if you want others to know that pregnancy isn’t always easy and MMH disorders are real

Long time no post right!!! So much has happened in this past year. Emotional struggles, busy kids schedules, pregnancy, new born life and so much more. I am getting to a place of normalcy again and can’t wait to start exercising again. Women’s health is so important to me so while I wait for my body to health from child birth I am going to start focusing more on women’s health and healing. Can’t wait to hear from y’all again 🙂
