Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama is a more than 50,000-square-foot, three story modern hospital facility located at 1032 South Main Street in Wedowee. The new hospital opened for patients on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 a.m. In August 2015, Randolph County voters turned out for a special referendum on a 1 percent sales tax to fund a replacement facility for Wedowee Hospital. The referendum to build a new hospital in Randolph County received wide support among those voters, with 86 percent of voters supporting the new hospital. Officials broke ground on the facility in May 2016.

Thank you to our public safety partners and emergency teams for participating in our emergency preparedness drill at Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama.

The exercise brought together healthcare teams, first responders, school officials and emergency management agencies from across east Alabama to practice coordinating and working together during large-scale external disasters, such as destructive hurricanes, active shooter events, vehicle accidents and other major incidents.

These exercises help us improve speed, coordination and safety protocols and procedures so that when a real emergency happens, our emergency care teams are ready to respond.

Check out photos from the event. A special thanks to Tanner’s Safety and Emergency Management teams and the students who dressed in moulage to act as injured patients during the drill.

We are also grateful for the partnership and teamwork from our community’s public safety teams and first responders from Randolph County Emergency Management Agency, Randolph County Board of Education, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Wedowee Police Department, Southern Ambulance Transport and Air Evac Medical Response.

🚨Emergency Drill in Progress at Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama 🚨

Today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we're conducting a scheduled disaster drill with local public safety and first responder partners.

While visitors may notice increased police, EMS and emergency response activity around the hospital campus and Randolph County High School, all patient care and hospital services will continue as normal.

Thank you to all our regional partners working together to keep the community safe.

🚑 Planned Emergency Preparedness Drill in Wedowee on Dec. 4 🚑

Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama will participate in a scheduled disaster drill on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in partnership with local emergency agencies.

These exercises allow our hospitals, schools and emergency responders to practice coordinated responses during a large-scale crisis, keeping our community safe.

Residents may notice increased responder activity and emergency vehicles around Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama and Randolph County High School during the drill.

Please be advised that this is not a real emergency, and all regular hospital services will continue as normal.

Thank you to Randolph County Emergency Management Agency, Randolph County Board of Education, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Wedowee Police Department, Southern Ambulance Transport, Air Evac Medical Response and all our community partners for participating in our exercise.
