Update ❤️
While Strong continues to work up potential live liver donors for Al….we have also reached out to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center!!! UPMC is the #1 hospital in the country for live liver donation-they do over 100 per year, and they have some different qualifications for donors that might be beneficial to Al getting a liver sooner 🙏
This by no means stops any of the progress that Strong has been doing, he will continue his care in Rochester, they will continue to work up any donors that have called their hotline, and he will remain listed on the liver transplant list within U of R’s region!!
What this does mean-is that we have a wider region to be listed for a deceased donor as he will be listed in Pittsburgh region AND the Rochester region!!!!! It also will allow people who would like to donate but may have been turned away for one reason or another potentially be able to still help!!! This may include a difference in BMI, height and even potentially someone with a different blood type may be able to donate part of their liver to Al as UPMC has some different criteria!!!
This is exciting news, as we heard today that Al will be being evaluated by their team at UPMC the beginning of November 🙏🙏
If you are interested in still being a donor for Al-we ask that you also contact UPMC’s live liver donation program to be evaluated by their hospital. This is seperate from the Strong hotline previously. (You can also continue to call the Strong Hotline). You will be required to travel to Pittsburgh for the evaluation if found to be a good recipient, and they work with you to schedule the surgery for an optimal time that works! They will assist with travel and housing while there!!!❤️❤️
