Pediatric Speech Therapy Hi, I'm Kailyn speech therapist and owner of Play with Words. Sessions are developed to meet your child's needs.

Based in Wendell, NC this pediatric private practice provides speech and language therapy to the Triangle area. Whether you prefer in-home visits or services provided in your child's daycare, preschool, or other community-based location, I come to you! It is my goal to collaborate with families, teachers, and/or caregivers to facilitate children's communication development within their natural env

ironment(s). For little ones, sessions are designed to incorporate play-based, child-driven approaches while working toward specific communication goals. When working with older students, sessions often include activities that target reading skills and functional communication strategies that will assist them in their personal and academic settings. This session = pure magic ✨

We were working on the letter S, and the card had Santa on it (perfect, because this kiddo LOVES all things Christmas).

Out of nowhere, he grabbed his talker and said:
“Grandma Santa phone”

He was asking me to show him Mrs. Claus since there wasn’t a button for it 🥹

So of course, I pulled it up…

And then the BEST part —
his squishmallow, Smushie leaned in and “licked” my cheek to say THANK YOU 😭❤️

This moment had EVERYTHING:
✔️ Child-led communication
✔️ Problem solving
✔️ Social connection
✔️ Emotional expression
✔️ Letter knowledge in action

And most importantly… CONNECTION 🙌

For a child with communication differences moments like this are HUGE. This is communication beyond words. This is intent, joy, and relationship building.

These are the moments we celebrate 👏💛

“It looks like you’re just playing.”

I hear this all the time when working with little ones—and I get why it feels that way.

But here’s the thing:

Play is the therapy.

The difference is intention.

I’m not just playing—I am:
✨ modeling
✨ prompting
✨ expanding
✨ creating opportunities to communicate

Every toy, every pause, every model, every interaction is chosen with a goal in mind.

It’s the difference between:
👉 playing with your child…and…
👉 using play to build communication skills

It looks simple.

But it’s very purposeful 💛

Had a great time at Northside Preschool in Knightdale, NC today! 💛

The staff is truly amazing—so kind, eager to learn, and honestly just really fun to be around. I’m grateful for the opportunity to spend time introducing ways to support children’s communication and sensory needs in the classroom.

We talked through practical, real-life strategies that can make a big difference in how kids learn, play, and connect—and this team showed up ready to soak it all in.

Grateful for opportunities to step outside my comfort zone and grow.

Speaking in front of big humans will never feel as natural as my preferred little humans 💛—but I’m so thankful for the chance to support, collaborate, and work alongside teaching staff who care so deeply about their students.

Enrollment is officially open for our Spring Literacy Lab 🌸📚

This 6-week small group program is designed to strengthen phonics, decoding, spelling, fluency, and reading comprehension in a structured, engaging way.

Each session is book-based, hands-on, and movement-focused—kids are actively learning.

Spring Literacy Lab is designed and overseen by a licensed speech-language pathologist with specialized training in language arts and reading development. Reading is built on strong language foundations, and this program intentionally targets both.

Spots are limited to keep groups small and supportive.

📅 Mondays | April 13 – May 18
⏰ 4:45–5:45 PM
💰 $55 per week (6-week commitment)
