We are deeply saddened that with the passing of Dr. Olson at West Bend Optical, we have had to make the difficult decision to close our doors.

We take comfort knowing our good friend and colleague, Dr. Michael Bardenwerper is helping during this difficult time to welcome in our esteemed staff and accommodating every one of our past clients. All of our patients medical records will seamlessly transfer to them making it a smooth transition for our family of customers during this trying time.

Dr. Bardenwerper and his team at Advanced Focus Eyecare in West Bend are relentlessly working to ensure Dr. Olson’s legacy lives on.

If you’re a former patient of ours, reach out to the team at Advanced Focus Eyecare and they will help you with all your needs.

You’ll also take comfort in seeing some familiar faces as their team has welcomed Dr. Paul Kappell and Optometric Assistant Michelle to their team.

We are saddened by the recent passing of the esteemed Dr. Olson, whose legacy of providing exceptional eye care in West Bend will be deeply missed.

To honor his memory and continue his legacy, West Bend Optical has merged with Advanced Focus Eyecare in West Bend. Together we grow our family of professionals and blend two amazing groups of patients.

We welcome Dr. Paul Kappell and Optometric Assistant Michelle from West Bend Optical to our team. They bring with them years of experience and a commitment to patient care that aligns perfectly with our values.

We understand that this is a time of transition, and we are committed to providing a seamless experience for all our patients as well as those that newly join us as part of our merger.

In Memory of Dr. Jerry Alan "Doc" Olson

Dr. Jerry “Doc” Alan Olson, age 75, passed suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at his lake home in Beaver Dam. He was born on August 3, 1949 to Clarence “Happy” and Arlene “Tena” (née Hendricks) Olson.

Doc would often say, “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.” His life’s work was dedicated to his patients and his employees at his family optometric practice, West Bend Optical, which he opened with his wife in 1992. He wanted to provide the best care possible for his patients, serving with honesty and integrity at the center of his core philosophy. His friendly demeanor often led to long, delightful conversations with his patients, and he could be heard laughing with his patients in the exam room. Doc viewed everyone as a friend and always led by example with his sense of community, service, gratitude, and comradery. He will be remembered by his keen sense of humor, his bright smile and energetic vitality, and his unparalleled compassion.

Doc is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra (née Hosfield); children, Athena Olson, April Lionheart (née Olson), Dr. Angela Dorigatti (née Olson), and Joshua Olson. He is further survived by patients and friends.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr. West Bend, WI 53095) from 10:30am until 12:45pm. A Eulogy Service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial will conclude at Genesee Village Cemetery in Mukwonago, WI at 2:45pm.
