✅ DR. Campbell Tip to DO BEFORE Shoveling Snow
Keep your cell phone with you while shoveling snow in case you need to call 911 or get help quickly.

❄️ Tips to Reduce Heart Risk When Shoveling Snow
According to the American Heart Association, shoveling snow can significantly raise heart rate and blood pressure, especially in cold weather.
Heart-Safe Snow Shoveling Tips (American Heart Association):
• Take frequent breaks to avoid overstressing your heart. Pay attention to how your body feels during those breaks.
• Don’t eat a big meal before or soon after shoveling, as digestion increases the heart’s workload.
• Use a small shovel or consider a snow thrower to lift smaller amounts of snow, or push snow instead of lifting when possible.
• Don’t drink alcohol before or immediately after shoveling, because it can mask strain and affect judgment.
• Learn the warning signs of a heart attack, such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, or arm/back pain—and call 911 immediately if you experience any of them while shoveling.
