Marino Moutafis is the founder and owner of Metro Detroit Acupuncture. Marino Moutafis is a nationally certified acupuncturist and licensed by the Michigan Board of Acupuncture. Moutafis has treated thousands of patients in multiple clinical settings including hospitals, community health clinics, and private practice. Marino Moutafis is a graduate from the prestigious Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, Oregon (OCOM). Moutafis received a Masters degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2006. OCOM is world renown for its focus of on integrating Chinese Medical theory and Western biomedicine. This expansive degree program focused on modern medical training, Chinese herbology, massage therapy, Qi gong, and multiple styles of acupuncture. Moutafis areas of focus included: Tan Balance acupuncture, Five Element acupuncture, Japanese acupuncture, orthopedic/trigger point acupuncture and Oriental medical research. After graduation, Marino accepted an international internship in Nan Jing, China at the Nan Jing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Moutafis was able to observe, study and practice clinical techniques with some of China’s premier physicians at Jian Zhong and Qin Hua hospitals. The internship’s primary focuses were gynecology, pain management and neurology. In addition to his formal education in the United States and China, Mr. Moutafis has studied directly with some of the worlds leading scholars in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Marino has broadened his clinical knowledge and effectiveness under the tutelage from masters such as: Dr. Richard Tan, Matt Collision, Lonny Jarrett, and Heiner Fruehauf. This advanced acupuncture training has allowed Mr. Moutafis to efficiently treat and support patients with a wide variety of health problems. Marino has extensive experience in treating acute/chronic pain, sports injuries, pediatrics, autoimmune disorders, migraine headaches, dermatology, reproductive health, anxiety, depression and spinal cord injuries.
