Practicing self-care promotes a healthy relationship with yourself to the benefit of your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Over the past few years, I've made these self-care habits a priority in my day-to-day life and it's been a total game changer!

My daily self-care habits include:

1. Reading every morning.
2. Setting the daily intention to forget the past and look forward.
3. Make my bed.
4. Spend 30 minutes in quiet.
5. Getting outside daily.

How are you helping your teen prepare for May 1st? College decision day is just a few weeks away!

Making the decision of which college to attend is one of the greatest teaching moments in our kids’ lives. If you want to be part of their decision-making but still be supportive, I'm here to help.

The college decision is a chance to show our teens how to consider, carefully reflect and make a large complex decision. It is a way to scratch the surface of decision-making.

Here are 3 ways to support your teen in the coming weeks as decision day is approaching:

1. Listen to their reasoning behind each choice.

2. Give them space to make their own decisions.

3. Help them prioritize their choice.

Today our teens have grown up surrounded by the internet and social media. They simply don't know a world without it.

Sometimes this over exposure to social media can be harmful for their mental health.

So, here's how we support our teens in a “healthy” relationship with social media:

1. Encourage them to limit screentime

2. Advise them to only follow accounts that make them feel happy/inspired, not poorly about themselves

3. Help them set healthy boundaries.

If you’ve grieved the death of a loved one, you know grief is complex.

Whether at work or in relationships, sharing and receiving feedback is part of improvement. If you have ideas on how someone can improve, don’t hold your ideas back, instead, share your criticism constructively.

When offering constructive criticism, it can be tricky. We want to be sensitive to others’ feelings and offer feedback when we feel the other person is ready to take it. Otherwise, we may come across as imposing our views on others.

Try these 3 strategies the next way you offer someone constructive criticism:

1. Rephrase the way you say things. The feedback sandwich method is a popular method of giving constructive criticism. With Positive-Improve-Positive, your feedback is broken down into 3 segments.

2. Be open to listening first. Don't forget to listen to their side explaining why they're doing things the way they are. By listening you may be able to better offer advice on how to improve.

3. Give specific and motivating recommendations on how to improve. With your recommendations, I recommend to (a) be specific with your suggestions and (b) briefly explain the rationale behind the recommendation.

Offering constructive criticism the right way can help you navigate conflicts more positively in your day to day life.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz offers a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives into a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.

This particular quote is one of my favorites:

"Whenever we hear an opinion and believe it, we make an agreement, and it becomes part of our belief system."

Remember that your thoughts, both positive and negative, are strong and they make a huge impact in our daily lives. That's why important to protect them and not let the opinions of others influence how we feel or what we believe.

I don't know about you but my dogs really know how to turn my day around immediately! I feel like they are laughing in this picture!

Our pets make a huge difference in our mental health. Many studies show that pets help reduce stress, anxiety and depression; ease loneliness; encourage exercise and improve your overall health.

They help us by helping to ease our anxiety, they encourage us to get outside and get active, and they encourage a sense of “togetherness” across our whole family.
