We were honored to officially open MedExpert with a ribbon cutting ceremony at our office, alongside the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce. This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting chapter focused on preventive, personalized care for our community.

Led by Dr. Monica Atkinson, MedExpert is proud to be part of the Boca Raton business community and grateful for the Chamberโ€™s support as we open our doors and begin caring for patients. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special moment.

Your 60s and beyond are all about protecting strength, independence, and long-term health. We continue your regular screenings โ€” yearly mammograms, bloodwork, cholesterol and diabetes monitoring โ€” but we add a stronger focus on bone health, fall prevention, and cognitive well-being.

This is also when vision and hearing become especially important to track, and staying socially connected plays a major role in preventing depression and even reducing dementia risk. Small lifestyle shifts in this decade can make a huge difference later on.

Preventive care in your 60s is about staying strong, steady, and engaged in the life you love.

Your 50s are a decade where prevention really starts to pay off. We continue everything weโ€™ve been tracking in your 30s and 40s โ€” blood pressure, weight, and routine labs โ€” but we add screenings and vaccines that become especially important now.

This is when the shingles vaccine comes into play, and for people with a significant smoking history, we start talking about lung cancer screening. Itโ€™s also a good time to get a baseline hearing test and keep up with cancer and heart-health screenings.

Preventive care in your 50s is about staying ahead of the risks that increase with age, while protecting your energy and quality of life.

Your 40s are when subtle changes can start happening quietly โ€” even if you feel fine. This is the decade where we focus on catching things early, before they develop into disease.

That means continuing regular blood pressure checks, weight monitoring, and basic bloodwork, and starting colon cancer screening at age 45. Stress management and nutrition also become much more important in this stage. For women, mammograms begin at 40, and Pap/HPV testing should continue as recommended.

Preventive care in your 40s is about staying ahead of what you canโ€™t feel yet.

Your 30s are when small habits start turning into long-term patterns โ€” so this is the decade to strengthen your routine.

I focus on regular blood pressure and weight monitoring, annual flu shots, and keeping your Tdap/tetanus booster up to date. Mental health screening matters more than most people realize in this stage, and for women, this is also when HPV testing, fertility conversations, and tracking early hormonal changes can become important.

Preventive care in your 30s is about staying ahead of stress and silent changes before they become real problems.

Your 20s are the decade to lay the groundwork. Even if you feel great, an annual physical with basic blood work helps build your baseline for the years ahead.

In this stage, I focus on blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, sexual health and STI prevention, and regular skin checks โ€” especially here in Florida where sun exposure adds risk. We also talk through contraception, reproductive health, and future planning if that fits your goals.

Preventive care in your 20s isnโ€™t about looking for problems โ€” itโ€™s about setting yourself up for long-term health.

Colonoscopy fear is one of the biggest reasons people delay screening โ€” and almost always, it comes from myths, not reality.

In this video, Dr. Monica Atkinson clears up the most common misconceptions: the prep is far easier than it used to be, the procedure is done with modern sedation so youโ€™re comfortable, and screening now starts at age 45 because early colon cancer often has no symptoms.
