If your 4–5 year old says “wion” instead of “lion” or struggles to make a clear /l/ sound, this group was made for them.

We’re launching a 5-week /L/ Articulation Group at Harmony Kids Playhouse in Media — a small, play-based speech therapy group designed to help kids learn how to make the /l/ sound and actually use it in real words, play, and conversation.

✓ Led by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist
✓ Small group for lots of individualized practice with real time feedback
✓ Fun, movement-based, and highly effective
✓ Grown-ups/Caregivers are fully involved so they can learn the speech skills too (for practice at home)

Details are in the image — tap, save, and share with a friend who might need this!

Whether your child is just starting to work on a sound or has been practicing for a while without much progress, articulation groups can be a powerful and motivating way to help their speech become clearer and more confident.

Traditional one-on-one speech therapy is wonderful and necessary for some— but it isn’t always the best format for every child or every sound. It can also be expensive and feel isolated vs immersive.

01/13/2026

When kids say “wion” instead of “lion,” it’s often because of a phonological process called gliding — when /l/ (and sometimes /r/) gets replaced with /w/

This is common in younger kids, but if it sticks around past age 4–5, it can start to affect how clear a child’s speech sounds to others.

The good news?
With the right support, kids can absolutely learn how to lift their tongue, hear the difference, and start using a clear /l/ in real words and conversation.

👀 STAY TUNED!!
And… let’s just say we’re working on something special that makes this kind of speech practice easy, social, play-based, and FUN!!!
👀 STAY TUNED!!

If you’re feeling frustrated because your child has been “in speech” but is still saying things like “tar” for “car” or “do” for “go,” you’re not alone — and it doesn’t mean therapy isn’t working.

Phonological delays are pattern-based. That means your child’s brain has learned an incorrect rule for how sounds work.
Until that rule changes, you’ll keep hearing the same errors — even if they can say the sound when prompted.

At The Speech & Language Center, we don’t just practice sounds — we target the patterns behind them using evidence-based phonological approaches so kids can make faster, more meaningful progress across their whole speech system.

✨ If you’ve been wondering whether your child’s therapy is really targeting what they need, we’re here to help.

DM us or click the link in our bio to learn about evaluations, treatment sessions, and how we support real, lasting growth.

The holidays are one of the best times to work on perspective taking—an important executive functioning skill.

Perspective taking helps us understand that:
• other people have different preferences
• reactions won’t always match expectations
• our feelings and someone else’s feelings can exist at the same time and yet be different

Gift-giving (and receiving!) gives us real, meaningful moments to practice this skill—no worksheets required.

If reactions feel tricky this time of year, it doesn’t mean your child is ungrateful.
It means their executive functioning skills are still developing.

And that’s okay💙🎁

The holidays are a naturally great time to work on perspective taking skills, one of the most important executive functioning skills.

Perspective taking is crucial for:
-understanding other people think differently
-reactions may not match expectations
-gifts might excite one person and make someone else anxious or mad

Gift giving (and receiving) gives us really, meaningful moments to practice this skill.

Leading up to the holidays this year, make gift giving and receiving have a bonus lesson. Chat with your loved one about different aspects of the gifts they plan to give. Also- plan ahead for reactions of all kinds!!

If reactions feel tricky this time of year, it doesn’t mean you or your child are ungrateful. It means their EF SKILLS are still developing.
And that’s ok!💙🎁

The holidays and gift-giving seasons bring excitement, traditions, and big emotions, but they also bring some natural opportunities to work on executive functioning skills. One skill in particular that has come to mind during this season is perspective taking.

If your child struggles with understanding others’ viewpoints, big emotional reactions, or flexible thinking, these moments can become powerful learning opportunities.

🎯 Why are we working on “ffff” during play?

That “ffff” sound is called a fricative—a speech sound made by pushing air through a small space (think f, s, v, sh). These sounds require precise lip and airflow control, which is why they can be tricky to master.

👉 /f/ typically emerges between ages 2–3, so if it’s missing, distorted, or replaced with another sound, we may need to target it—especially when it’s affecting how well a child is understood.

During play, we sneak in lots of opportunities to practice “ffff” in a way that feels fun and natural with words they are motivated and eager to say with games they want to play!

Because when kids are engaged, motivated, and relaxed… learning sticks.

💡 Noticing your child skipping or replacing any sounds?
Early support can make a big difference—reach out to learn how we can help

Parents- you are not expected to know all of this stuff or navigate it on your own!! That’s what we’re here for!

Thank you for having me! 💙💙💙💙💙
Our Babble & Books session was full of stories, songs, early language skills, and the most engaged little ones!!

We love bringing connection, communication, and early literacy into spaces that support both mamas and their kiddos.

And hosting this group in Media is especially close to my heart — I’m a Media mama myself, so being able to pour into this community means so much to me.

If you’re interested in more Babble & Books sessions, follow along to stay up to date on upcoming dates for this class and the many programs we offer!
