Thanksgiving can be full of new sights, sounds, and routines, and a little preparation can make the day feel calmer and more enjoyable for your child. 🍂

A few sensory tips that may help your kiddos feel more comfortable and supported throughout the day include:
🦃Bring sensory items from home to help with regulation in an unfamiliar setting
🦃Bring a separate plate of their preferred foods and remind others not to pressure them to eat
🦃Talk with the host ahead of time about seating or creating a quiet space
🦃Show your child where their quiet "safe space” is or create a signal for when they need a break
🦃Try any new Thanksgiving foods at home first in a familiar, low-pressure setting
🦃Review event details together or use a visual schedule if helpful
🦃Try including them in meal and gathering preparation to help ease anxiety around the event, allowing them to be more familiar with what will be in the home or on the table

Meet Michelle!

Michelle chose to work in pediatrics because she loves the fun things that children do and say. She enjoys seeing the excitement on the faces of the parents seeing and hearing their child do something new for the first time.
When she isn't at the clinic, you can find her outdoors! She loves kayaking, hiking, and spending time with her family.

*To ensure the best experience for our kiddos, we have broken down the afternoon into 30-minute time slots and limited the number of families at one time to help create a sensory-friendly environment. Please plan to arrive at the start of your chosen time, but you're welcome to stay longer if needed to finish activities. Siblings are welcome, we just kindly ask that families keep groups small, so the space stays comfortable for everyone. Meet Taylor!

Taylor began working in pediatrics because she wanted to provide children with the opportunities for meaningful play and being a supportive link between children, caregivers, and the community. Her favorite part of her job is how all patients, caregivers, and co-workers have become like family. She loves celebrating victories and milestones, both big and small! She specializes in feeding therapy and tethered oral tissue remediation (tongue, lip, and cheek ties).
When she isn't at the clinic, you can find her reading, cooking, baking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, two dogs, and two cats! She also loves cheering on Cleveland sports and FC Cincinnati!

Meet Madison!

Madison has always had a passion for peds, especially after watching how occupational therapy helped her brother become independent and thrive as a child. Her favorite parts of the job include creating lasting relationships with each family who comes through the door and watching little milestones turn into big moments!
When she isn’t at the clinic, you can find her at any FC Cincinnati game cheering them on, reading a good book, or trying out new recipes at home.
