Swimming is great exercise, and a perfect way to spend a summer day! Follow these tips and tricks to protect your eyes this summer!

🌞 Wear googles to keep chemicals and irritants away from your natural tear film

🌞 Splash your face with fresh water immediately after swimming in chlorine to rinse off lingering chemicals on eyelids/eyelashes

🌞Using OTC eyedrops/gel drops can reduce redness and keep the eyes comfortable before and after swimming

Reminder to NEVER swim in any bodies of water, natural or chlorine, with contacts in!

Our eyes need much more TLC in the winter due to the cold temps, and dry heated air indoors. Dry eye symptoms can include blurry vision, pain, burning, light sensitivity, and a gritty/sandy sensation. Some tips to help you battle dry eyes this winter:

❄️ Add more Omega-3 fatty acids to your diet: this can include OTC supplements and foods like salmon, tuna, flaxseeds, chia seeds, avocados, and eggs.

❄️ Use a humidifier on your bedside table, and throughout the house to keep indoor air moist.

❄️ Put in artificial tears during the day to keep the eyes lubricated, and a PM gel/ointment at night if eyes feel more dry when waking up.

❄️ Use a hot washcloth or a heated eye mask on the lids for a few minutes a day to help increase the supply of blood to your meibomian glands. These are small oil glands along the edges of your eyelids which help to keep the eyes moist.

❄️ Take 5 minute computer/screen breaks every hour to allow your eyes to refocus, and increase your blinking to help recoat the eyes with moisture.
