Happy Thanksgiving if youโ€™re celebrating the season and also itโ€™s totally ok not to feel Thankful! Feel what you feel. We see you!
โค๏ธ

Grief is hard any time of year. But holidays can feel particularly brutal. For many grieving folks, Thanksgiving is the hardest holiday of the bunch. Itโ€™s centered on community & gratitude. And all of it seems to highlight the empty place(s) at the table.โฃ

It's hard to feel thankful when you're grieving. Gratitude gets presented to grieving folks as a cure for their ills.

โ€œAt least you had them for as long as you did."
"Be thankful for the memories.โ€โฃ

Gratitude & grief exist side by side. There's a huge difference between CHOOSING to feel grateful for something and having someone tell you to be grateful for this or that.

There ARE ways to celebrate and acknowledge the holiday that donโ€™t unintentionally make things worse for grieving folks.

Itโ€™s far more helpful to find gratitude for things that help us survive. Things that companion you exactly where you are. Things that give you even the tiniest bit of comfort.โฃ

It's also perfectly ok to NOT feel grateful. Remember that you can choose to ignore this or any other holiday, no matter what anyone else says.โฃ

Wherever you are in the world, I hope this 4th Thursday in November has at least a few moments of peace inside of it for you.

I wish you true reasons for gratitude, inside yourself: The company of real friends. The relief of solitude. The shelter of love in all its forms.

Peterโ€™s Peter's Place: A Center for Grieving Children and Families is doing important work every day!

On Childrenโ€™s Grief Awareness Day, weโ€™re proud to share our 25th Anniversary Fall Newsletter, honoring our past and shaping our future in bereavement support. โญ๐Ÿ’š

Childhood grief profoundly affects children, teens, families, and communities. According to the 2025 Pennsylvania Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model, 1 in 11 children in our state will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18.

Our work at Peterโ€™s Place has never been more essential. Click here today to read this special edition newsletter that reflects on the past, positions us for the future, and shares meaningful connections our group participants make. https://petersplaceonline.org/annual-fall-newsletter-25/

It has truly been an honor to learn from these two amazing men! They have mentored me towards being the therapist I am today!

From Laraโ€“ Talk about a pinch me moment ๐Ÿ’ซ A student from Bob Neimeyerโ€™s class recently sent me this photo. Thatโ€™s THE Bob Neimeyer, one of my greatest mentors, teaching about grief and referencing me alongside Richard Schwartz, the brilliant creator of Internal Family Systems. Two of my biggest influences in one slide, in one room, and I wasnโ€™t even there. Humbled and honored to say the least!
