As to covid-19 testing (as of May 11th, 2020), the FDA has issued 92 EUAs (emergency use authorizations), which includes 12 antibody tests and 1 antigen test. In addition to pharmaceutical treatments, there are now TWO different plasma treatments: (1) convalescent (previously infected & contains anti-covid-19 antibodies) patient plasma and (2) therapeutic (normal plasma and "flushes out" virus by replacing infected plasma with uninfected plasma...a technique used in some other overwhelming infections) plasma exchange which has been tried with very good results & published in 2020 by physicians at Lexington Medical Center. A recent 9th case was therapeutic followed by convalescent.

"Anti-vaxxers" forget that when they come down with flu or whatever they avoid getting vaccinated for, they endanger everyone who comes in contact with them if & when they become infected. Antibiotics came on the scene in the 1940s; see the TIMELINE on vaccine development goes back to 1797 (though only becoming more widely used beginning in the 1900s): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_vaccines

For infectious diseases, PLEASE note that the rate varies depending on whether you test during the height of an infectious season or not. Here is the CDC about the rapid flu test:
