In many places around the world, autumn is marked by the slow, beautiful change of green foliage to vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, and purples. Green leaves appear green because of the presence of the pigment chlorophyll, which is key to photosynthesis. In temperate regions, cold winters pose a risk to the leaves of broadleaf trees and other perennials, and so these plants drop their leaves in a controlled fashion to reduce injuries and conserve energy. This event is usually triggered by the declining day length and falling temperatures of autumn. Leaf abscission (the technical term for the dropping of leaves) begins with the degradation of chlorophyll. As the green fades, yellow and orange pigments known as carotenoids are revealed in the leaves of many species. In other plants, pigments called anthocyanins accumulate in the leaves at this time, giving them shades of red and purple. Some of the most beautiful fall foliage features both types of pigments, often with one color giving way to the next as the season progresses. Eventually all the leaves are dropped, and the plant goes dormant for the long winter months.

As autumn unfolds, nature gently reminds us that change can be both beautiful and necessary. October invites us to slow down, reflect, and reconnect — with ourselves and with what truly matters.
“The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go.”

July 4th has been an honored federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. The historical meaning of July 4th, also known as Independence Day, is the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This document announced the separation of the 13 American colonies from Great Britain. As citizens of America, we can celebrate, but also release the pressure-filled social protocols. May we all focus on appreciation and be grateful for those who have sacrificed and paid the price for our freedom.

The History of Mother’s Day
The initial origins of celebrating motherhood can be traced back to Ancient Greece and Rome, where festivals were held in honor of their mother goddesses.
But the history of Mother’s Day as we know it came from humble origins in West Virginia, USA. During the American Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis, known as “Mother Jarvis” in her local parish, helped start “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to raise awareness of the poor health conditions in her community. After the war ended, Mrs. Jarvis organized “Mother’s Friendship Day” to promote reconciliation between the Union and Confederacy.
The day we now recognize as Mother’s Day came from the efforts of Ann Jarvis’s daughter, Anna, in the 20th century. She made it her life mission to get Mother’s Day onto the national calendar; the first widely recognized celebration of the holiday was when she held a public memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia.
Finally, in 1914, Mother's Day became an official holiday. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday to be celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May.
So May is for mothers. Take the opportunity to celebrate a mother this year on May 11.

The month of March ushers in hints of Spring, celebrates new life and new beginnings. It is a month that hovers between Winter and Spring. March it is often said to come to "in like a lion and out like a lamb”.
St. Patrick’s day is celebrated on March 17, the anniversary of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The classic account of the life of Saint Patrick is that he grew up as a member of the Roman nobility in western Britain and was abducted and forced into slavery in Ireland around 400 A.D. According to this history, Patrick escaped and became a priest before having a vision and returning to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity.
Legend has it that Saint Patrick used the shamrock, now the national emblem of Ireland, to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity, by showing an unbeliever the three-leafed plant with one stalk.
Key points about March's symbolism:
• Birth flower: Daffodil, representing hope and new beginnings.
• Birthstone: Aquamarine, symbolizing courage and strength.
