Specifically, if you’re not enrolled in Medicare Part D, this is the period when you can join. If you already have Medicare Part D, then you can use the open enrollment period to review other Part D plans and choose a new one. Keep in mind that if you didn’t enroll in Part D when you originally signed up for Medicare, you may be subject to a late enrollment penalty if there wasn’t a comparable prescription drug coverage from another plan before signing up for Part D. If you have original Medicare, you can also use this period to change to a Medicare Advantage with or without Part D coverage.
