This man told me the fact that you ask for nothing makes me want to give you everything and never did a single thing for me. And the audacity of that sentence coming from a man who delivered absolutely nothing will never not be infuriating. He saw a woman who was low maintenance, who did not demand, who did not nag, who did not create lists or issue ultimatums, and instead of recognizing that as a gift and pouring into her the way she deserved, he used it as a loophole. He said the perfect words to make her believe something beautiful was coming and then sat back comfortably knowing she would never hold him accountable for the empty promise because she was too gracious to ask for anything in the first place.

And this is the trap that good women fall into over and over again. The less you ask for, the less you receive, because the wrong man does not see your silence as strength, he sees it as permission to do nothing. He romanticizes your low expectations because it benefits him. He praises you for not being demanding because it means he never has to deliver. He tells you that your selflessness makes him want to give you the world and then gives you absolutely nothing but that sentence on repeat every time you start to wonder why his actions never match his mouth. She did not need to hear that he wanted to give her everything. She needed to actually receive something, anything, a flower, a plan, an effort, a single moment where his hands moved the way his words did. But they never did. And the most painful part is she probably waited longer than she should have, believing that one day the words would finally become real, because he said them so beautifully that she mistook poetry for a promise. But a promise without proof is just manipulation with better vocabulary. And the man who tells you he wants to give you everything while consistently giving you nothing is not romantic, he is a con artist who found a woman too kind to call him out on it.
