Day 3: Black Maternal Health Week
DID YOU KNOW?! In the U.S., Black women are over three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women. CDC notes that more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable (2024).

Rooted in Justice and Joy affirms that equity and celebration are both essential to Black Maternal Health. Justice calls for accountability, systems change, and respect for Black birthing experiences, while joy centers rest, healing, cultural affirmation, and the right to thrive. Together, justice and joy shape a liberated future where Black Mamas, families, and communities are supported, protected, and valued.

Developing a culturally responsive and congruent workforce is critical—one that
understands systemic racism, addresses bias, and provides person-centered, respectful, and affirming care for Black women and birthing people. BMHW26 highlights the need for sustainable solutions that ensure Black Mamas receive high-quality care at every stage, from preconception to postpartum.

Day #2: Black Maternal Health Week
This , we proudly celebrate that Black Mamas deserve more than just survival; they deserve happiness, rest, and freedom. Data gathered in 2023 showed 30% of Black women reported mistreatment during pregnancy and delivery care (CDC, 2023)

"Rooted in Justice and Joy" focuses on healing, cultural pride, and systemic change to support Black families before, during, and after pregnancy.

DOULAS DO THIS! 🗣🤗

This , we invite you to join us and in working together to promote equity in Black Maternal Health.

Day 1: Black Maternal Health Week
We join in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Black Maternal Health Week- theme is “Rooted in Justice & Joy”, held annually on April 11-17.

We honor the power of our collective movement, nurturing thriving families and shaping a liberated future rooted in justice, healing, and joy. BMHW builds awareness, fosters activism and community-building, and amplifies the voices, perspectives, and lived experiences of Black Mamas and birthing people.

The week is intentionally held during National Minority Health Month and begins on April 11th annually to join dozens of global organizations in marking this day as International Day for Maternal Health and Rights - an opportunity to advocate for the elimination of maternal mortality globally.

Does community health include maternal health? YES! In addition to our doulas being trained in birth work, several are also certified Community Health Workers.

Maternal health strengthens communities to meet the needs of mothers, guardians, children, and their families.

Our doulas are equipped to help moms, infants, children, and families be healthy and well. This includes finding medical providers, resources, and more to meet the needs of their clients and families.
