This week Dr. de Guzman was the first surgeon in the state of Illinois to perform surgery with the VIA360 by New World Medical ( )! ⁣

This new device intuitively has a microcatheter that the surgeon can 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲, 𝗜𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 with viscoelastic forward and tangentially, and 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟯𝟲𝟬 degrees through Schlemm's Canal. ⁣

𝗦𝗟𝗧 (or, Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty) is our favorite first-line treatment for glaucoma here at Simpson Eye!

A gentle light beam is used to treat the eye’s natural drainage system, allowing high eye pressure to reduce naturally within 4 to 6 weeks. This can prevent the need to commit to daily eyedrops!

But just don’t take our word for it. Numerous studies have demonstrated the advantage of SLT first before eye drops in treating glaucoma :)

As glaucoma progresses, damage to the optic nerve causes blind spots to develop, making it harder to see clearly. These changes often start in peripheral vision and can go unnoticed without regular eye exams.
