Honoring the Life of Bishop Mary E. Ray
December 26, 1950 – August 6, 2025

We were honored to help create this bronze memorial plaque in tribute to Bishop Mary E. Ray, a faithful servant whose life was devoted to faith and ministry.

The design features praying hands and an open Bible, symbols of her devotion and the Word she lived by. The polished bronze and decorative border reflect a life of grace, strength, and unwavering faith.

🕊️ “Faithful Servant” — A life well-lived, a legacy that endures.

🇺🇸 Today We Honor Our Veterans 🇺🇸

On this Veterans Day, we pause to remember and give thanks to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Your bravery, dedication, and sacrifice have safeguarded the freedoms we cherish every day.

May we never forget the courage it takes to serve — and may we always show our gratitude, not just today, but every day.

Thank you, veterans. ❤️🤍💙

🪦Did you know?

In the 1800s, cemeteries were often designed as peaceful “gardens of remembrance.”

Before public parks existed, families would visit these beautifully landscaped spaces to take walks, enjoy the scenery, have picnics and spend quiet time remembering loved ones.

Many of these early cemeteries featured winding paths, trees, and flower gardens — intentionally created to offer beauty, comfort, and reflection.

Today, that same spirit continues. Cemeteries remain places of peace and remembrance, where love and memory live on among the trees and stones. 🌸

🪦 Did you know… every piece of granite is completely unique?

Each color, swirl, and pattern is created by nature over millions of years — no two are ever exactly alike. 💎

That means every monument we create is one of a kind, just like the life and story it represents. ❤️

Did You Know? The Hidden Meanings on Old Headstones

Did you know that many of the oldest headstones in West End and across Moore County were hand-carved more than a century ago — and that the symbols on them actually tell stories?

If you look closely at older stones in our local cemeteries, you might notice:

🌳 A weeping willow — a timeless symbol of mourning and everlasting life.
🤝 Clasped hands — representing farewell or eternal unity.
🐑 A lamb — often marking the resting place of a child.

Each design was carefully chosen by families to express love, faith, and remembrance — a language of stone still visible today in cemeteries right here in our community.

At Sandhills Monument Company, we’re honored to continue that tradition — crafting lasting memorials that speak from the heart and preserve stories for generations to come.

🕊️ Next time you visit an old cemetery in Moore County, take a closer look… the stones may be telling you a story.

Renderings are illustrative and not actual representations of the person, place, or object.

🏛️ Did You Know… Obelisks Were the Original Power Symbols?
Over 3,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians built obelisks to honor rulers, show off family status, and connect with the divine. These towering stones weren’t just impressive—they were meant to last for generations.

As time went on, cultures in Europe and beyond adopted the obelisk shape as a symbol of influence, remembrance, and honor. That tradition carried forward into the cemeteries and memorials we see today.

So the next time you spot an obelisk-style monument, you’re looking at a design inspired by one of history’s oldest ways to celebrate life and legacy.

Let us help you create a tribute that stands the test of time.

We are honored to have created this companion memorial for the Coletrane family. The memorial features a vase and emblems of open Bibles with crosses and flowers, celebrating the lives of Carrie Parsons Coletrane (Mar. 17, 1956 – Sept. 27, 2024) and Rev. Dr. Irvin Gregory Coletrane (May 7, 1954 – ).

Our heartfelt thanks to the family for allowing us to help honor their loved ones. May this tribute stand as a lasting symbol of faith, love, and remembrance.

Honoring James Emanuel Kennedy: Faith and Remembrance
We are privileged to share a recently completed and installed monument for James Emanuel Kennedy (1962–2025).

This beautiful gray granite memorial features a striking black granite tile that truly makes the design stand out. It perfectly captures his memory with timeless symbols of faith and peace:

A central porcelain portrait beautifully showcases his likeness.

Detailed etchings of a dove (symbolizing peace and the Holy Spirit) and praying hands provide a serene and meaningful frame.

The inscription "Loving Father, Grandfather, and Son" serves as a heartfelt reminder of his cherished roles in the family.

Crafting a lasting tribute like this, which reflects a loved one's spirit and faith, is our highest honor.
